| Palomides02-10-06, 08:18 PM | When creating a magical weapon or armor +X, you need to be at least a caster of 3X levels. ie +2 longsword you need to be a caster of 6th level My question is with the feat Practice Spellcaster could make a +3 weapon or armor if suppose you were a 6 level wizard and had 3 levels of other class ? |
| Seeker9502-10-06, 11:08 PM | Does practiced spellcaster add all the levels together to determine caster level? If so, then it would work. if not, then it won't. |
| Darkwolf_childe02-10-06, 11:14 PM | Practiced spellcaster allows you to cast spells as if you had +3-4 levels of a spell casting class provided it doesn't exceed you maximum class levels. i.e. a 6th level wizard, 4th level fighter with this feat would cast spells such as fireball or magic missile and they would take affect as if a 10th level wizard had cast them. If the PC had only 2 levels of fighter then the feat would take affect as if an 8th level wizard cast them. Interesting question though. I'd say if it was good enough to improve spell effects; it's good enough for item creation prerequisites. |
| Seeker9502-11-06, 09:34 AM | If it doesn't explicitly increase your caster level, but rather only affects the outcome of your spells, then it would not work. Practiced Spellcaster does not change your caster level. It only affects the effective caster level of the spells you cast. Practiced spellcaster would not affect your ability to craft arms and armor. |
| Dragonteuthis02-11-06, 09:57 AM | Except that Practiced Spellcaster does increase your caster level. So technically by the rules, a 5th-level wizard/4th-level fighter would be able to make a +3 weapon or armor, exactly as if he were a ninth-level wizard. |
| Oliver D'Argent02-11-06, 10:15 AM | I am inclined to say that Practiced Spellcaster would not help with item creation. Although a Wizard 5/Fighter 4 with Practiced Spellcaster can cast spells at 9th level of effect, he would still only have access to 3rd level spells rather than the 5th level spells that a true 9th level Wizard would have. |
| Zherog02-11-06, 11:49 AM | But you don't need access to 5th level spells as a 9th level wizard to make a weapon a +3. For example, a 9th level bard or sorcerer could make a +3 weapon, and they don't have access to 5th level spells. I'm inclined to say it works. |
| Oliver D'Argent02-11-06, 02:16 PM | I can see your point, but I am still unsure about it. I will write to the Sage and see if we can get a ruling on it. |
| Seeker9502-11-06, 02:58 PM | Reading the source (I initially only looked up the blurb on IMarvinTPA's site), the benefit of this Feat indeed says "Your caster level for the chosen spellcasting class increases by 4." It would work. |
| RaspK FOG02-11-06, 06:33 PM | I agree with Seeker. |
| Evandar_TAybara02-11-06, 06:51 PM | Could single class Rangers and Paladins (and such) use this feat to boost their caster levels? |
| Seeker9502-11-06, 07:22 PM | Why would you think that they couldn't? |
