Do if you have a targeted Dispel Magic cast on you, shouldn’t you need to roll against both the permanent spell and the Permanency keeping it permanent? If the permanent spell is dispelled, then the Permanency would be holding nothing and would probably fail. If the Permanency were dispelled, the original spell would revert to its original duration and eventaully wear off. |

As it stands we have spell 'A' with a duration forced to Permanent and a duration Permanent Permanency as well. I'll probably house-rule the change to an Instant duration for Permanency. It is a weak enough effect without insisting on 2 rolls per spell effect. |

I just finished saying exactly the same thing in the other Permanency thread. Yes, with a Permanent duration, Permanency can be dispelled. Since the other spell is certainly still an 'ongoing effect on a person', it can also be dispelled. Assuming the original spell's normal duration (not its new Permanent duration) has expired, dispelling either spell will get rid of the original. However, as I noted in the other thread, it's not guaranteed that a targeted dispel on the creature will actually affect the Permanency spell, since it's not really a spell cast on the creature; it's a spell cast on a spell, which isn't the target of the targeted dispel. But in this case, an area dispel would get the Permanency. -Hyp. |
