| NightScreamer2012-27-05, 03:51 AM | These need to be tweaked, and unlike certain OTHER subjects.. I don't usually gripe about people telling me how or what I need to do to change/balance my Spells or PrCs (a small note towards Seeker since I do like 95% of his input across this board here, just to be honest)... Winged Arrows Transmutation Level: Ranger 2 Components: V Casting Time: 1 Standard action Range: Touch Target: One bow in your possession Duration: 1 minute/level (D); see text Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Upon completion of the spell, any arrow cocked on this bow grows a pair of small feathery wings that guide them to their target. Any arrows fired from this bow double their Range Increment, do not suffer any penalty due to range, and ignore any AC from cover below Total Cover. This spell has an effective duration of 1 minute/level, however it can only affect a total of 10 arrows during this time. The caster of the spell chooses what arrows are effected by the spell during the duration, so they need not be fired consecutively. Penatrating Shot Transmutation Level: Ranger 1 Components: S Casting Time: 1 Swift action Range: Touch Target: You Duration: 1 round Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Your arrows drive deep into your enemies. For the duration of the spell, any arrow or bolt you fire is considered Magical for the purposes of overcoming Damage Reduction. In addition this ammunition can pass through an entropic shield or wind wall as if it didn't exist. Improved Penatrating Shot Transmutation Level: Ranger 3 Components: S Casting Time: 1 Swift action Range: Touch Target: You Duration: 1 round Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No In addition to the effect of Penatrating Shot, this spell incurs the following benefits. During the duration of this spell, any arrow or bolt you fire ignores any bonuses to AC granted by spells (so the +4 Armor Bonus from a mage armor spell would be ignored, however the +2 deflection bonus from a ring of protection would still be viable). Ammunition fired during this time also passes through magical barriers, such as wall of force, without pause. |

(I suspect I am just missing something obvious) The duration should be 1 min./level or until discharged since it will only work for up to 10 arrows. Also, I assume you mean caster level. Rangers make CL and level somewhat "different". In light of the above, I would consider making the target one bow. |

I did it just so you only get 10 shots that have an increased range increment, etc. etc. I thoguht about the bow thing but it seemed it could be abused to easily: Manyshot or Rapid Shot allowing you to fire a helluva lot of arrows within this time. However a Higher Level version of this spell could be made (level 4, 'Winged Bow') I think would be more reasonable. I don't know what you mean by "Also, I assume you mean caster level. Rangers make CL and level somewhat "different""... If you mean in the spell's specifics, it's the same as any other spell, of course you use you Caster Level when dealing with a spell's duration, so I saw no need to change the format. The last line is so once the arrow is fired, if it is somehow, deflected or snatched it loses it's enhancement. I changed thw wording for less confusion. |
| Seeker9512-27-05, 09:15 PM | Thanks for the clarification. Here's are my answers to some of your questions. I don't think it would be overpowered. I was assuming it would still work for a maximum of 10 shots, fired in as many as one minute per caster level. The "one bow" just changes the requirement that you place it on ten arrows. It also decreases the abusability of the one ranger spell letting three ranged shooters in the same party fire off ten arrows in the first round or two. Also, if placed on a bow, it removes the need for language about the state or status of the arrow after it is fired. |

Target: One bow Duration: 1 minute/level; see text "The spell lasts 1 minute/caster level or for a maximum of 10 shots, whichever comes first' |

| NightScreamer2012-27-05, 09:48 PM | Seeker thanks for yours and EVERYBODY ELSE'S opinion (echo echo echo)... I think these spells might be balanced. *nudge nudge* I'm thankful for these public forums so we can all voice our opinions. :P |
