What happens when you try to...lets say charm a person, and the person succeeds the will save? Does he know that someone cast a spell upon him? Does he know who it was?

What if the person fails his save and become charmed. Does he know that he has been charmed when the duration expires? Does he think of it as it was a natural way to behave? Orrr...

I don't know how to roleplay when I make my PC's meet a person that they charmed the previous day?

(The questions above counts for suggestion, fascinate and things like that as well...)

>Does he know that someone cast a spell upon him?

Yes.

>Does he know who it was?

Only if he saw someone cast the spell or can otherwise "guess" at who it might have been.

PHP p177. "Succeeding on a Saving Throw: A creature that successfully saves against a spell that has no obvious physical effects feels a hostile forces or a tingle, but cannot deduce the exact nature of the attack. For example, if you secretly cast charm person on a creature and its saving throw succeeds, it iknows that someone used magic against it, but it can't tell what you were trying to do. ..."

If you saw someone cast a spell and then felt the saving throw, they can put 2+2 together and realize that you are likely trying something. Make a spellcraft check and they know what you are trying.

>Does he know that he has been charmed when the duration expires? Does
>he think of it as it was a natural way to behave?

It would depend.

First, they might know that they were acting differently or doing something that they wouldn't normally do -- if you got them doing something that they normally wouldn't do. Charm person makes someone your best friend. This likely wasn't the case before you cast the spell. If they are suddenly loaning you money, cleaning your house, acting as your body-guard, or wake up next to you in bed, they are going to wonder. Assuming folks know that magic exists in your campaign, they can put 2+2 together and get 4.

Second, it doesn't remove memories. If they saw you casting a spell and then realize their behaviour was a bit off... again they can put 2+2 together. If they didn't see you cast, then it's a bit harder to put things together.

>I don't know how to roleplay when I make my PC's meet a person that they
>charmed the previous day?

Unless the PCs were extremely careful in charming the NPC -- didn't visibly cast and didn't get the person to do anything extra-ordinary -- then the person might be a bit confused or embarassed. For example, assume a female bard was making nice with a guard on his off duty hours and then charmed his (without being seen to cast). She then asks the guard lots of questions about his job and slips in a few questions about how many guards are there and what part of the castle the owner stays in. Next day she is still nice to him. Fine. He isn't likely to realize he didn't something he might not normally have done.

On the other hand, if she just charmed him and asked a bunch of questions and his keys, the next day he is going to wonder what in the world he was doing talking about the castle with a stranger and handing over his keys. He is likely to greet the PC with a drawn sword.

Thanks... I was wondering about another thing too... about the "wouldn't ordinarily do" part. Is it "wouldn't ordinarily do for his best friend" or "wouldn't ordinarily do under normal conditions"...
