A ghost's familiar?!?! [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-06-05, 02:15 AM Ok, so my character was killed by a ghost last session. He was, subsequently, turned into a ghost as well, something that has lead to further complications as he's trapped inside a house by a more powerful ghost. So it looks like it's the end of my character and I might as well go back to the drawing board, except for the fact that I had a familiar! This rat was under my control before my ghostly transformation, I am wondering if it's still under my power? The PHB says that it would revert to a regular animal after my death, but now that I'm back up again, does he come back to me? Moreover, can I still use "summon familiar" now that I'm a ghost providing the rat left? Please help me, as this seems to be my only way of keeping the character (the rat could be used to get help)...

10-06-05, 12:27 PM As long as you still have Summon Familiar as a class feature, you can summon a new one; whether the old one is still with you is up to your DM to decide.

If you summon a new one, you might want to summon a raven, for the simple reason that it can actually talk, explain the situation and ask for help. ;)

So, here's the follow-up question. How do I actually call said raven, if I'm trapped in a house where everything is ethereal and undead? Can I attract a raven from the forest outside, or does it have to be some sort of creature from inside the house?

10-07-05, 04:38 AM The familiar is a magical beast that, as long as the ability is concerned, might even pop up out of thin air, so there is no problem.

Remember that you need to spend 200 gp worth of magical materials in the process; luckily, everything you carried should have become ethereal along with you.
