| Lycanthromancer11-21-07, 09:32 PM | http://www.sendspace.com/file/beeqf3 Is anyone willing to find a more permanent home in hosting this? That was several days' worth of work, and I'd like to share it with you guys. Also, I was going to hyperlink all of the soulmelds to a full description, but it didn't work like I wanted, and I'd likely get in trouble with the non-OGLness of it anyway. So, any thoughts, comments, or suggestions? I hope you like! -Ly [edit] I tried to make it as search-friendly as possible, but I'm not a programming guru, so I did what I could with what I had. REQUIRES MS EXCEL (or some other way to read .xls files). |
| NoldorForce11-22-07, 01:54 AM | I'd suggest removing the macros and instead implementing a sort/filter system; some people (like me) have macros turned off by default. Funny thing is that I'd made something similar about seven months ago, and even included the totemist soulmelds from Dragon 350. I'd pointed it out a bit more quietly over, considering the non-OGL nature of the system, and thus I'm trying to recover it from the people I'd mentioned it to. The bulk of the work was based on copying in roughly seven pages of charts, some of them in fine print. THOSE I still have. |
| Flamewarrior11-23-07, 07:50 PM | The computer where I'm now doesn't have a .xls reader (believe it). Tell me if that (www.inf.ufrgs.br/~stsilva/Incarnum Soulmelds.xls) works well enough. No time limit on its use. :) |

I took a few college courses about 10 years ago, but I'm sure they're outdated (not that I can remember most of them anyhow). If you want to do a search, try Ctrl + F. That'll get you basic Search functionality. :) Also, thank you, Flamewarrior. Very nice. :D [edit] The macros don't work. Ack. |
| NoldorForce11-25-07, 12:39 AM | I was referring to stuff pre-implemented in Excel, under (in this case) the Data tab. First two options. They're rather handy for database operations. Edit: Sorting is unfortunately a one-time thing; setting up a button to sort still seems to require macros. Doing the same for filtering doesn't require them, however. |
| NoldorForce11-25-07, 02:01 AM | ...And filtering is a bizarre affair in which you can set stuff in sequences...something to muck around with tomorrow, perhaps. I can make it work, but I need time. The problem I had here, though, is that the thing's relatively messy. No offense, but it really is. You've got an entire page's worth devoted to cross marks on descriptors, when none of the soulmelds have more than about three; a single text field with each descriptor listed might be better. I could with time make up a custom filter that just looks for each descriptor. You have two separate fields for essentia effects when you could just note that every single essentia effect just adds a bonus somewhere. On my table, I'd just used 'X' anywhere an essentia effect showed up to denote the quantity invested; thus Charming Veil might state this...+1+X (insight) to charm & compulsion power & psi-like ability DCs...instead of this...+1 (insight) to charm & compulsion power & psi-like ability DCs +1 to DCs/ess...more concise, no? If you're going to have a sortable/filterable set of fields for the function of a soulmeld, you likely don't need to state the same in the soulmeld's description. Having multiple entries for a given soulmeld may be a necessary evil if you're trying to make it sortable/filterable by chakra. But an entry for the totem chakra as well seems a bit wasteful when you can throw it on the end of the soulmelds that have such a bind; you don't need to sort/filter for the totem chakra entry when you can instead look for totemist soulmelds. Having multiple entries for the variable-alignment incarnate soulmelds seemed a bit wasteful; my preference was instead for just summarizing in one box (as you've done for Planar Chasuble) and tagging it with the [Alignment] descriptor. Listing damage values for natural-attack-granting wastes space considering that you can just list the value for Medium creatures and extrapolate from there. Those in the original text already do this sort of thing. Sorry if I came off as too harsh there; I've been inevitably comparing it to my own work (still haven't looked it over in months), and likely noting your flaws while ignoring some of my own. |
| Dracomorph12-19-07, 06:47 PM | Little flaws notwithstanding, I'd like to say thank you for making this available. It could come in really handy. |
| Lycanthromancer12-19-07, 07:06 PM | I would have liked to make it better, but... |
| Garandene_Lyrandar01-01-08, 11:10 PM | WOW THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D |
