Brilliant Aura is a seventh level druid spell listed in the Complete Divine.
It Basically says that the druid or whichever hackle-head is casting the spell covers his allies in a glowing nimbus.(fancy schmancy)

It then goes on to say that the allies weapons function as if they were brilliant energy weapons . The line that follows is my issue.
"They ignore nonliving matter, and armor and enhancement AC bonuses do not count against them."

So am I to understand that basically a Npc/bad guy or whoever is going up against the guy with the brilliant energy weapon has basically no benefit to his AC except his dex? Or does he still get some of the bonuses(Like if he had an increased deflection bonus or something.) Someone tell me if I'm reading this wrong. It could be that I'm reading this the right way and it may just be that powerful since it's a seventh level spell. But I can't help but think I have the spell wrong.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Deflection bonus
Profane bonus
Natural Armor Bonus

These are just three that work against brilliant energy.

And as Mrk says, they can't harm undead. Time to bring out the bodaks!

Here's a quote from the SRD on Brilliant Energy weapons (which this spell emulates):

A brilliant energy weapon ignores nonliving matter. Armor bonuses to AC (including any enhancement bonuses to that armor) do not count against it because the weapon passes through armor. (Dexterity, deflection, dodge, natural armor, and other such bonuses still apply.) A brilliant energy weapon cannot harm undead, constructs, and objects.

so the necromancer casts this spell on the enemies and they can't hurt his creations...hrm...seems like I'm gonna have some ticked off players come monday...

I don't actually have the book in question, so I don't know the spell description. What does it list for targets and saves? Make sure it doesn't say something like "unattended weapon" or "weapon held by a willing creature" or even "your or an ally's weapon". Something like that. If it can be used on others it should have a save listed.

Targets: 1 person per 2 levels, all of whom must be within 30' of each other
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)

When cast by a high-level caster this could be quite hard for a poor will save character to make - and a lovely way to negate your opponents weapons from carving up your undead. It affects the people and "their weapon attacks (melee or ranged) function as if..."

If you are fighting undead then it's time to go unarmed - this is specific to weapon attacks... Especially as it says "all attacks gain an enhancement bonus on damge equal to one half the caster's level" - so the unarmed attacks gain the bonus but are not brilliant energy by strict RAW.

Monks rule! :)

Plus of course, any archers in the group will proceed to pincushion the necromancer with weapons that now ignore mage armor, bracers of armor, etc. and have a nice fat bonus.

But it sounds like, by RAW, it would be an effective tactic.
