I can't figure out which abilities a lycanthrope keeps and which it loses if it's currently under a Polymorph any Object spell.

If you lose your (subtype); do you lose all the special abilities that go with it? Just some?

If anybody wants to work with a specific example: A 1st level Fighter becomes a Were Direbear and gets PaO into a Firbolg. What lycanthrope abilities does he keep?

What lycanthrope abilities does he keep? The ability to resume his original true form.

Yeah, what Seeker95 said.

From the PHB, page 263, polymorph description:
Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to being polymorphed, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype (such as a lycanthrope or a doppelganger) can revert to its natural form as a standard action.

So, it would lose the scent ability, the DR, etc.?

If polymorph says he loses 'scent, DR, etc.' (I guess these are either (Ex) or (Su), and polymorph would probably mention that instead of specific abilities) then he would lose those, yes.

Whether or not the polymorphed form would negate the lycanthrope's abilities is a moot point; he can immediately shift back to his original form, as stated in the polymorph description (quoted above), and effectively negate the spell's alteration.

El Machinae, you really should read the entire text on polymorph in the PHB. I think the answers you seek are all there in the spell description.

Edit: And before anyone says that I'm missing that El Machinae identified the spell as polymorph any object--note that the first words in the PaO description are, "This spell functions like polymorph..." Nothing in the PaO description negates or counteracts the provision in polymorph for shapechangers, so it is still valid for polymorph any object.

You know, you're right. I was so hung up on the (subtype) aspect that I just didn't read the polymorph text fully.

Strange; it's like an extended brain fart. Thanks.

No problem--been there, done that, and had others to break me out of that kind of "tunnel vision". Just passing on the good deed.
