04-05-06, 10:25 PM Suppose I cast detect magic on a +2 battleaxe?

What school of magic would I get?

(a) Evocation (suggests this on DMG 213, IIRC)
(b) Transmutation (because a +2 weapon probably has greater magic weapon as a prerequisite)
(c) Enchantment (because that was used in 3.0, IIRC)
(d) something else

04-05-06, 10:30 PM I would say Enchantment. Probably not Transmutation. I don't know why it would be Evocation, but you might get a couple other opinions first.

04-05-06, 11:03 PM DMG pg 213 recommends Evocation. Enchantment is not appropriate, since enchantments generally affect minds or perceptions (PH pg 173). The similarity to magic weapon (and GMW) suggests Transmutation, but note that there are no spell pre-reqs for a standard weapon enhancement.
