| Archangel02-23-04, 08:27 AM | A while back, still in 3.0 ed I made a sword called a Darksword after the swords I read about in Return of the Archwizards novels. So now let me see what you think of it? Does anybody know of any similar official or unofficial magic sword's? Darksword - made by Shadow Magic and made of Shadowstuff, weave spells like Detect Alignment, Detect Magic,Identify and similar, Dispel Magic and Mage's Disjuction do not work on it, skills like Spellcraft and Knowedge: Arcana cannot wield any information about it! - wielder can as a standard action change the shape of the Darksword into any sword he is familiar with of the size appropriate to the wielder - has +2 enchantment - has Cold property (+1d6 cold damage) - gives its user free Quick Draw feat with the weapon - gives the user free Improved Sunder feat with the weapon - gives the user an ability to cast Deeper Darkness 1/day + (1/Int mod. per day) on himself only - the user can once per level per day bypass any weave magical protections (including spell-like abilities) against physical attacks with this weapon; this uses are spent per attack and not per round; the use of this power is not under the control of the wielder and is activated automaticaly if the target is wearing any weave magical protections; these protection are: Mage armor, shield, any deflection bonuses, Stoneskin and any similar magicks, but it do not effect protections like mirror image or invisibility! - the sword is intelligent (although it never speaks to its owner, but gives him the knowledge of all his abilities as a self identifing item would) - this ability is not revealed to the wielder and the wielder without outside help cannot recognize any change: every time the wielder draws blood with it in combat, it tries to corrupt the wielder by turning him to the shadow weave and Shar which means that the wielder gets a Will save DC (10 +1 for every day the wielder drew blood); if failed it changes wielders alignment one step toward Chaotic Evil(LG>NG>CG>LN>NN>CN>LE>NE>CE), if the save is made another save is rolled next time; It does this until the wielders alignment is changed into CE and then it makes the wielder find the nearest Shadovar Enclave to join their ranks as a new Shade or die trying; the wielder automaticaly knows where to go; once the sword has corrupted the wielder nothing short of Wish or Miracle cast by a good weave user or the death of the wielder will stop wielders new quest - this sword is never found as a part of somebodies treasure, it is either found on a newly slain SHADE or given to a accomplished SHADE by the Shadovar Enclave! If found on a killed Shade then the sword chooses its new wielder from the given choice of adventurers and deals 2d6 cold damage per round to anybody else trying to hold it (this bypasses any non-shadow weave elemental resistances) |
| Heron_Marked_Blade02-23-04, 09:04 AM | How did you price it? |
| Archangel02-23-04, 09:19 AM | Did you read its description, it cannot be found as a part of the treasure hoard or bought, and making it is not possible since the secrets of their creation died with the original creator. I can't remember how many of them that Shade in the novels made, maybe somebody else knows? Also I forgot to mention that once a person is made Shade the sword lets the wielder choose any alignment as allowed by the Shade template! Since in 3.0 adamantium was different I would also add it is as adamantium in all respects except against other Shadow Magic items and spells! |
| Heron_Marked_Blade02-23-04, 09:29 AM | Right, but in order to allow it into a campaign, a DM is going to want to know how it's priced. That way he can keep the party treasure (PC wealth) level relatively balanced. So how did you price this one (i.e. what are the abilities worth)? |
| jokotoko02-23-04, 09:46 AM | The aligment change is very weird.....why would I go from CN to LE....and why is LN in your opinion more "evil" than CG...not sure about this.... |
| Archangel02-23-04, 09:49 AM | So if you don't like it and allow it in your campain change it. I only posted it if anybody else liked those Darkswords and wanted to give a player a cool sword. The price is not always everything because this is not the kind of a item that players can take at character creation, no matter how much gold they have! |
| Seeker9502-23-04, 09:57 AM | Double post |

So, what you're trying to say is that you don't want feedback. You want people to blow sunshine up your shorts. :P |
| Hblast02-23-04, 10:01 AM | it is immune to MDJ... it has no price... it has a whole LIST of abilities... Major artifact is the only thing you can say to justify this thing... |
| Heron_Marked_Blade02-23-04, 10:10 AM | I would suggest changing this: (LG>NG>CG>LN>NN>CN>LE>NE>CE) to this: (LG>NG>CG>LN>NN>CN>CE>NE>LE) Reason being: it fits the pendulum swing from LG to LE; I seem to remember the Shades being more Lawful than Chaotic; LE is the alignment that works toward world domination, which seems much more evil ultimately than just randomly hacking people apart. |
