| Galeros07-21-04, 11:07 AM | I have an idea for a new magic system. The problem is, I think it would be way overpowered. Why? Well, here is my idea, there would just be a magic user type class, and there would be no "spells." Basically whatever the Wizard wanted to do, he would do. if he wanted to have the ground rise up and form a wall to block an enemy, then he could do it. Although not every izard would be able to do this, what I am saying is. There could be different difficulty levels for certain tasks. The main probelm is I have no idea how to put this type of thing into game terms. |

It basically uses "spheres" (the Time sphere, the Life sphere, the Forces sphere...). The player can spend "xp" to buy "points" in these spheres, up to 5 (6?) points. The more points he has, the more things he can do regarding things relating to that sphere, and he can combine powers of spheres to accomplish more difficult tasks... Sounds a lot like what you want... |

The best thing I can think of doing is assigning difficulyt DCs to general effects. Without making it too overpowered either. |

Basically, you decide what your spell is going to do, and there is a chart to figure out the DC of the spell. You roll. If you succeed, you take subdual damage as fatigue for casting the spell. If you fail, you take real damage for miscasting the spell. |
