While i was down and out during and after Hurricane Wilma, I came up with a new spell:

Scything Force

Conjuration (Force)
Level: Sor/Wiz 6th
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 120 ft
Area: Cone-shaped burst
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: None

A burst of powerful energy flashes from your hands to extend outward in a cone to damage everything in its path, dealing 1d6 points of force damage per caster level (maximum 15d6).

Arcane Focus: A miniature replica of a scythe made from platinum is used in the casting of the spell. It costs 200 gp to construct one.

Tell me what ya think!

Well, let's compare it to Cone of Cold as a benchmark.

CoC: max 15d6, Cone area, Energy damage, save and SR apply.

Scything Force: Same area and damage, Save but no SR, Force damage.

I'd say the bypassing of SR is worth a spell level, and the awesome Force damage is worth another. The arcane focus is so cheap it's basically just for flavor. So I'd call this a 7th-level spell unless you added a substantially expensive (~1000 gp?) expendable material component.

I'd also call it Evocation (force), because you can't conjure "force," since "force" doesn't actually exist as a substance. Note that all (force) spells in the PHB are Evocation.

I agree with what MindWandererB, but I would like to add in that this was an awesome idea and would be a pretty sweet spell to see in effect.

Thanks for the critiques.. I can definitely up the gp value of the focus to 2,000 gp. As for the spell level, 6th is good, because almost all your damage spells start kicking in really good damage being capped at 20d6 and higher. As for spell resistance, I was thinking that you guys are right, that SR should apply, because Mordenkainen's Sword requires SR at 7th lvl.

If you made it evocation and SR: yes, I would say you have a fine 6th level spell, though the range on the cone may be a bit too high.

Please don't follow the lead of those broken Orb spells from CA. This should be evocation and SR:Yes

this spell should be Evocation, SR:Yes, and have a 60ft. range... other then that it looks like an awesome spell.

1) Merely being conjuration does not mean SR: No. For things involving Force, then Conjuration definitely does NOT make it No. Force is by nature magical, even if conjured. I might see a 9th level spell that was Force and had no SR

2) I agree that this is fair -
As a 6th level spell, SR Yes, 80 ft range, with Force, and it should be evocation.

or

As a 6th level spell, SR No, 80 ft range, with Fire/other element.

Or

As a 7th level spell, SR Yes, 100 ft range, with Force, and it should be evocation.

or

As a 7th level spell SR No, 100 ft range, with fire/other element

or

As a 9th level spell, exactly as you listed it. SR plus Force that does damage is very powerfull., let alone the range.
