Allright I'm playing a druid for the first time in a long while.

I have the muderous mist spell (personally I think its broken but my dm is an idiot that lets me have it so I only abuse it when he puts us up against hordes of powerful enemies. Anyways it states that it moves away from the caster at 10' per round after being cast....... What happens if I fly around it to the other side? can i keep running it over people or does it move away from where I was when I cast it? (this is what we have been doing but it makes about as much sense the otherway since undead will change direction if you dim door to the other side of them when turned.)

Other question is what lvl is freeze? It is listed in one place in the book at 5th druid the other at 6th.

It says that the mist moves away in a straight line. Based on that, if the caster walk/fly around to the side of it, it is still travelling in a straight line, and therefore, must ignore the caster's new position.

What are the books you have for where freeze is located? I have found it in the spell compendium, but the other source would be handy.

I agree with Nepence.
I think Freeze is a 5th level spell.

both references are spell compendium in the spell block istelf it says 6th in the druid spell listings it says 5th. I had seen it somewhere else a little bit varied in its reference and the way the spell worked I forget which reference that was though. may even have been 3rd ed. or and ogl product.

If it comes over me at that point it is now moving toward me in a straight line with the spell block being contradicted in the spell text. Also if you are flying can you cast it directly beneath you and have the fog be stationary, Or does it pass into the ground at this point ignoring the line of effect questions? From the spells description my guess is that is does fire dmage though it doesn't really ever actually name the damage type. Does it effect objects? If also states that is spreads in a 30 foot radious which would seem to contradict the normal line of effect bit about casting with open doorways in that once the radious gets to the doorway it would spread into that doorway as the mist went down the hall. Once again we've not been playing that way since this spell is very powerful if used merely in any fairly wide corridor.

You are confused on the Murderous Mist spell.
When casted, the mist starts moving from the position you were during casting.
You do not (of course) control it beyond casting, if you move after casting it does not change direction.
So once casted, it will continue in the direction you wanted at 10' round for X rounds (1 round/level) until the duration expires.

Freeze is a 6th level spell SC p99.

"You create a cloud of scalding hot steam that moves in a straight line, away from you, at a speed of 10 feet per round."

So risner how is it moving away from you at 10' per round after you cast it if you go 'round to the other side?

Its moving towards you then.

On the freeze on page 99 it says 6th on page 256 it says 5th? which is right everyone else said 5th.

Considering the rest of the sentence talks about stuff "on creation," it's fair to assume that the creators meant the direction to be determined "on creation."

It seems very silly to have a spell act like a small lamb or cow being herded somewhere, and I'm positive the text would have said such if direct control was allowed.

Heck, you've already said you feel it's broken. Why are you arguing for the "broken" interpretation against a more sensible interpretation?

As a side note...

I think its broken but my dm is an idiot that lets me have it so I only abuse it when

WTF. Seriously, WTF.

If your DM knows less about something than you do, that's not an excuse to abuse the rules, your DM's trust in you, or the DM. If your DM knows less than you, the sign of a good player isn't to abuse that knowledge but to pass it on.

You've deliberately chosen an admittedly broken interpretation of a spell and are using your idiot DM's lack of knowledge to abuse it.

Bold = Your words, not mine.

D&D used to be a game about fun...

A spell that can 1. kill line of sight for purposes of the enemies casting spells at you, 2. do damage equal to acid fog. (though with a save), 3. Oh yeah chases the enemy down though slowly. 4. AND it blinds masses of eneimes at once, all at lower level than acid fog? Plus its a reflex save meaning that only rogues and bard really have good saves against it, most monsters don't. This shouldn't be a 5th lvl spell in my opinion. I might see it if the blindness was temporary or only lasts a few rounds or was curable with a heal check. In any kind of building you simply put this up between the enemy and the wall and they are forced to either slowly retreat to the wall and perhaps still spend a couple of rounds in it or cross the 60' of the spell at half movement since you can't see within it. (I suppose you could move at a run through it since its not a solid fog but something in me rebels at the idea of running headlong into a cloud.) At 7th lvl (when a druid can get this spell) his save is going to be at least 17 and probably higher. That makes a fighter who will on average probably have a +5 or so need a 12 or better for at least 2 rounds to avoid being blinded. The wizard and the cleric are in worse shape.

In battles where you are fighting a bunch of smaller monsters under your cr this simply destroys them and even at up to about 15 level many or most of the beastly physical monsters are fairly low on the reflex save. It also has a tendancy to ruin the ranged abilities of the monsters you cast it at since they cannot see you as it rolls toward them and you approach behind.

Because it is set on creation.

Page 99 is the spell, page 256 is a table. RAW says spell info wins before table, so it is 6th. If you didn't know this already, maybe you should read the PHB and DMG again.
