In a Magic-Psionics Transparent world, this goes for an Anti-Magic Field as well. Now then...this could be the key to saving the class. All he needs is a Handy-Dandy, Portable NPF or AMF. So, how would you go about pricing/making one? In the BoED there are AMF shackles, but they only function when closed, and that doesn't strike me as terribly portable. Thus, the proposed solution: I'm looking to have such a Ring/Wonderous Item made, though I'm not sure as to the pricing. The material component is a pinch of powdered iron or Iron filings, so that's negligible. I'm thinking that either would be appropriate, though I'm not sure on that. So, following the SRD guidelines for a use activated/continous item, we have: Spell Level x Caster Level x 1.5 (spell duration measured in 10min/level) x 2000 GP. AMF is an 8th level clerical spell, and a 6th level Magic/Protection/Sor/Wiz spell. NPF is a 6th level Kineticist spell. My question hinges on wether an AMF/NPF is subject to dispelling. If it is, I'll have it cast/made by a 20th level cleric, giving me: 8x20x2000 = 480,000 GP. ::Gulp:: On the other hand, if it isn't subject to dispelling, I'll go with the 6th-level variant -- 6x11x1.5x2000 = 198,000 GP. Still ::Gulp::, but a much quieter one. And far more affordable. So which body slot should I go with? Or would it be more useful slotless? That would double the cost, though I'd be able to hide it under my armor. :b Whaddya think? |

If AMF affects both then the following applies: The short answer is that you can't create an item with a continuous anti-magic field. Because the item cancels itself out (unless it is an artifact) whenever it is used. AMF is not subject to Dispel Magic so you could create an item that activates an Antimagic Field on command. That would be 6*11*1800 = 118,800gp at minimum caster level as a ring. This is based on 5 charges per day. As a wondrous item you would almost certainly run into the Body Slot Affinity problem so the price would increase to 178,200gp. Of course the problem is that you are inside a field that cancels out any other magic items that you have running on the PC. So naturally strong and large monsters will be able to rip him apart. As an aside even if AMF was subject to dispelling it is still cheaper to get a Wizard to make one at Caster Level 20 (6*20*1800) as dispel magic checks operate on Caster level not spell level. |

Sure, he'd be missing out on all that nifty armor enhancements, etc...but he can still do Psychic Strike, etc. GPW probably wouldn't work... hrrmm... but would Deep Impact? These might be questions for the Psionics Board... |
