| Dauthi_King11-21-05, 02:40 PM | To make a magic spell effect continuous I have to multiply the base price by 4. So a ring that cast mirror image (lets say its 4000g) would then cost 16,000g to be continuous, and its effect would be a perment mirror image, right? Thats not the question but I'm not sure if thats right. So here it is. A magic item that could cast Cure Minor Wounds at will as a level one cleric would cost 2000g (caster level (1) * spell level (1) * 2000g), and to make it continuous would cost 8000, right? So its effects would be what? I ask this because one of my players wants to do this and it makes sence, but I find a hard time justifying that my player now gets healed 1d8 + 1 hp each round. |
| cwslyclgh11-21-05, 02:44 PM | the best thing to do is just say no to contineous magic items that use a instananeous spell, they are ALL broken. |
| ScipioX11-21-05, 02:55 PM | I concur. If you think its unbalanced, it probably is. The cost chart is just a guide. |
| theAlastorian11-21-05, 03:03 PM | And healing spells should NEVER be continuous. That's why there are monster abilities like fast healing that give a jump to LA. |
| Seeker9511-21-05, 05:37 PM | Here's the solution if you choose to allow such things: Natural Consequences. Continuous cure ring infuses the wearer with positive energy. It is a direct link to the positive energy plane. The wearer is granted one hit point per round. Once granted twice as many hit points as her maximum, she goes *pop*! |

You have the guidelines all wrong. If a magic item could cast Cure Minor Wounds at will, it would cost 1800 gold (CL 1 * SL 1 * 1800), but this is clearly unbalanced and wouldn't be allowed by the DM, as the guidelines are just guidelines. It cannot be continuous, as it does not have a duration. If it had a duration, to be continuous it would cost CL * SL * 2000 * modifier for duration. This modifier is 0.5 for durations over one day, 1 for durations in hours, 1.5 for durations in 10 minutes/level form, 2 for durations in 1 minute/level form, and 4 for durations in 1 round/level form. So in answer: • What he's suggesting isn't possible. It cannot be made continuous. • The guidelines are only guidelines. Don't allow anything which is clearly unbalanced. |
