| tnitz01-18-04, 03:05 PM | In my current Campaign (3.5e) I play a Gnome Wizard who could be described as being slightly less than sane. I acquired a Rod of Wonder during our last session and set about using it in several encounters. The obvious happened and I'm now 1/12th my, making me 3 inches tall. Now, based upon the description in the DMG, my DM has ruled that this is a perminant effect, but I could get rid of it with Dispell Magic. He also ruled that my equipment shrank with me. My real question is, what if I don't want to? I've been trying to figure out what all happens to someone when they are shrunk this way. By looking at the table in the PHB that shows the typical sizes of creatures of different sizes, I figure I'm probably Fine now. I figure my stats have to be effected by this, the only relevent table is the one in the advancing monsters section of the Monster Manual, using that table it looks like my strength will drop by 6, whereas my dex will increase by 6. Basically, I'm trying to find a downside to all of this. My ac goes up by 11, my str drops sure, but I never use it, my weapons suddenly don't do damage, but I don't use them really, and most importantly, my ranged attacks goes up by 11. I figure my move drops to 2ft or so, but I also can't find any reason that I can't use my bat familiar as a mount. My DM agrees that this fits my character perfectly, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks in advance. |

If your DM is using the massive damage rules it won't take much for you to be knocked straight back to the loony bin, and being a wizard their fort. save isn't too hot. Just a thought as i'm about to leave my house lol :) |

I seem to remeber a rule in tome and blood that unless you had improved familiar it had to be a certain number of size steps smaller than you. I am not sure about this though. Also, yes, this is really benificial unless your DM uses the optional massive damage compared to size rules in which case nearly any amount of damage could spell your death. Finally, smallness IS really good for arcane casters. I use the reduce self spell in 3.5 as a self buff when I am doing combat with spells like scorching ray. Also, if you go by the shrink rules under reduce person you don't lose speed (allthough it is less of a size change) and don't forget hide bonuses to size!:smirk: It is really cool to play a halfling sorcerer with reduce, enlarge, scorching ray, ride, mounted combat, and mounted casting. You make the party fighter your mount by casting enlarge on him and reduce on yourself!:D Then he has increased damage and devastating ranged support that follows him. Wee, fun! Everyone :pile: on the :fight!: ! :D |
| tnitz01-18-04, 06:34 PM | There's a section in Tome and Blood titled "Familiars for Tiny or Smaller Masters" the text indicates that I should have a really small bat, but the table lists a bat as a familiar, and the listed statistics for the bat familiar are the same as the familiar I currently have. Also, my size is still inheriantly Small, I just happen to have been magically shrunk. If I can lose my familiar through this shrinking spell, then why don't people who use reduce person lose their familiar if they wouldn't be capable of having that familiar with their new reduced size (i.e. a small caster with a familiar not on the list of familiars for tiny or smaller masters list)? |
| green_yawgmoth01-18-04, 07:12 PM | Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that particular effect end out with "as the Reduce spell"? I believe the spell only lasts 1 min/level, so that would be 20 mins. tops I would say. |
| tnitz01-18-04, 07:31 PM | Oddly, no. From the RSRD: "Reduce wielder to 1/12 height (no save)." It doesn't specify a duration, nor does it specify a spell it works the same as. It just makes you 1/12th size. |
