| Solian02-03-07, 10:47 AM | Do wands have to look like wands? or can their effect be apllied to another item, like a glove etc? thanks in advance -Solian |
| Black Mantha02-03-07, 10:49 AM | I assume you want to avoid getting disarmed? There is nothing in the DMG that suggests you can do this, but I'd allow it with a 50% surcharge for an unusual body slot. I wouldn't allow it slotless. |
| Solian02-03-07, 11:10 AM | Thanks, and it's that my character is a rogue 2/wizard 5 and, well, he doesnt want to be in jail without a wand of knock (which they woudl more than likely take from him if it looked like a wand) |
| Decinious02-03-07, 11:11 AM | I'd allow you to make wands into Items, though I'd make you have both craft wondrous and craft wand. He's already turning a near slot less item into an item that he could be using the slot for something else. If anyone argues with you about it check into Deathwand Crossbow from arms and equipment guide, it has wand slots you can put wands in and use them as long as you are holding the crossbow. Or there is a version of gloves of storing that lets you use wands/stave out of them as if you were holding them can't remember the book though. |
| Thiez02-03-07, 11:38 AM | A false tooth of Knock 1/day will do >:-) Edit: I did the math. Knock is a second level spell, assume minimum caster level. (2 * 3) We'll go for Use-Activated (bump with your teeth against the target door and whisper 'knock, knock', it's a standard action). (2000) Once per day ( 1/5 ) No space limitation ( 2 ) Nerfed Distance (Range: 130 ft. to Range: Touch): 20% discount (I made this up. If you don't like it, ignore it) ( 0,8 ) Price: 2 * 3 * 2000 * 1/5 * 2 * 0,8 = 3,840 gp. It may be expensive, but it's a small price to pay for the most stylish item in existence. Maybe you can convince your DM to make it cheaper (50% discount instead of 20%) for the limited usefulness. |

| Neutronium_Dragon02-03-07, 12:46 PM | A wand isn't considered a slotless item. Anything which you have to wield is considered to be taking up a chakra on the character, so it doesn't get charged the slotless modifier. You could certainly make a wand look like something else. There's no strict rule that requires a wand to look like a pointy little stick. As long as it's still functioning in the same way mechanically there'd be no problem with making it look like a statuette or a hairpin. However, you'd still need to wield it in order to use it. |
| DrMorganes02-03-07, 12:52 PM | I'll go with the dissenting opinion on this one. A wand, by definition, is a roughly stick-shaped item. Turning it into a glove, false tooth, or statue means you're now dealing with a Wondrous Item, not a wand. |
| TheRealOrion02-03-07, 01:27 PM | I agree. It's a wondrous item that happens to store 50 spells and is use-activated. Just use the wondrous item rules. A lot easier. |
| runestar02-04-07, 12:38 AM | And a lot more expensive...:weep: I don't suppose there is a way of disguising a wand as some normal, everyday appliance? |
| Azar_of_Faerun02-04-07, 01:21 AM | Hair pick? :) |
| MarkL02-04-07, 07:20 AM | Thanks, and it's that my character is a rogue 2/wizard 5 and, well, he doesnt want to be in jail without a wand of knock (which they woudl more than likely take from him if it looked like a wand) Why not just hide it where they won't look? |
| runestar02-04-07, 07:48 AM | Or why not just pick the lock? |
| MarkL02-04-07, 08:16 AM | You gotta hide the lock pick somewhere too :P |
| maurezen02-04-07, 03:06 PM | Seems like the lockpick hidden in the boot will be a lot cheaper)) |
| Azar_of_Faerun02-04-07, 07:40 PM | FAKE MUSTACHE (saw an ep of MacGyver today where the bad guy hid a pair of picks behind his sticky mustache) |
| Tyraxus02-04-07, 09:49 PM | Play a hot chick with two wands as hair-stick-things (whatever they're called). One of knock, and one of, say, greater invisibility (or greater command for some fun). |
