Hi Guys,

I was having a conversation with my cousin who happens to be a GM for an epic/divine campaign he is running. In the course of dicussion, it came up that a caster who has iterative attacks from a high attack bonus can cast more than 1 spell around so long as they casting times are 1 standard action or less. I was always under the impression that you were only allowed 1 standard action per turn even when taking a full attack, which would allow for only spell to be cast per turn.

This was news to me and I've been playing casters for just shy of a decade. Can you guys let me know what the rules say? Thanks in advance.

Not that I'm aware of. You are generally allowed one quickened spell and one normal spell per round...and that's anyone, even your 1st level wizard trying to cast Featherfall and Magic Missile in the same round. In the epic levels, though, there is a feat called Multispell, which allows a caster to cast an additional quickened spell per round. It can be taken more than once.

Nowhere that I have ever seen gives any sort of spellcaster the ability to cast spells equal to the number of attacks he or she would get. There's another epic feat, though, that lets you do it with staff or wand activations....

Your friend has NO idea what he is talking about/house ruling out of his butt.

One spell takes a standard action. You are NOT allowed multiple standard actions when doing a full round.

Instead you get multiple ATTACKS.

While yes, it is true that you can do one attack with a standard action, that does not mean that you can do any standard action as an attack. I.E. Size is like follows:

1 attack is smaller than, but not less than 1/2 the size of one standard action, so it can be done in it, but never more than 1 (some exceptions apply)

1 full round action is bigger than both a Standard action and one attack. It is so much bigger that if you are fast enough with an attack you can get multiple attacks
