Okay, real quick question here.

When casting a spell that requires "a full-round to cast," does the spell go off immediately before the character's next turn (taking the entire round to cast it) or does it simply take a full-round action and then go off on the same turn?

I know Summon Monster explicitly states the summoned creature shows up before your next turn, but what about other spells like Call Lightning? When does the first attack happen?

The casting time on call lightning (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/callLightning.htm) is "1 round", meaning that it takes the entire round to cast, and doesn't come into effect until your next turn.

Okay, gotcha. But if the casting time is "full round" then it's a full round action that takes effect immediately, right?

I forgot exactly how it's worded when it's only a full round action. Got an example?

It might just say "1 full-round action", I'll try to find something.

Occasionally, the descriptive text slips in the expression "1 full round", which is bad terminology but should be taken as identical to "1 round".

If it says '1 full round action', then it goes off on your turn, and you can only take a 5' step as well on that action.

If it says '1 round', then it takes a full-round action on your turn, and you keep casting until just before your next turn, then it goes off.
