| Kragar's Shadow03-19-06, 12:09 PM | Hello all! Hopefully this question hasn't been asked too recently. As a DM, I'm trying to make an encounter with a 3rd level goblin wizard against a 3rd level party seem interesting. Hopefully it will be more than the wizard gets off two spells then the barbarian cuts him in half. Basically I want to use Obscuring Mist to let the wizard hide and then fry the party with a wand of Burning Hands. Concealment is your friend when you have both low AC and HP. The problem is that it will burn off some of the Mist, though I might allow the mist to roll back in on the next round. But I had another idea: what if I used Silent Image to mimic the Obscuring Mist? This would let the wizard use ranged attacks (like Magic Missile) because he could see through the illusory mist but the party couldn't and he could keep hiding. The question is: if I can use Silent Image to do this, does the party get a Will save? I don't think they do since the mist is reacting exactly how you expect it would. If the mist is clouding your vision like good mist should you have no reason to disbelieve it. But I might allow the party to make Spellcraft checks to know that the wizard is doing something that he shouldn't be able to do with Obscuring Mist, THEN make a will save. Does this make sense? Opinions please. Thanks |

Or, more specifically, as soon as anyone (including the goblin) attemtped to shoot / move / attack through the mist, the party would get a will save. They would continue to get a will save each time they did so. |
