| Legion1608-09-06, 05:28 AM | I was wondering exactly how a Daylight spell would effect a vampire? The spell description was a little vague on that point. |
| jokotoko08-09-06, 05:59 AM | Considering the following section of the daylight spell: Despite its name, this spell is not the equivalent of daylight for the purposes of creatures that are damaged or destroyed by bright light. Moreover, the description of a vampire's weaknesses uses the word "direct sunlight" which is different from the mere bright light that a daylight spell provides. Exposing any vampire to direct sunlight disorients it: It can take only a single move action or attack action and is destroyed utterly in the next round if it cannot escape. For futher prove of the above (the difference between direct sunlight and a daylight spell), see the following quote from the description of a wraith and an orc: Daylight Powerlessness (Ex): Wraiths are utterly powerless in natural sunlight (not merely a daylight spell) and flee from it. Light Sensitivity (Ex): Orcs are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell. Both make an explicit distinction between sunlight and the daylight spell. I think it would have been helpful if they would have included a similar phrase in the description of the vampire, however. |

| jokotoko08-09-06, 09:50 AM | Shorter answer: it wouldn't. This is what I tried to say....in somewhat fewer words :D |
| Legion1608-10-06, 07:05 AM | Much obliged, gang. I'm using the original 3.0 PHB, which isn't nearly as descriptive as I'd like on some points. To all who answered, a virtual plate of brownies. |
