I was gonna go with electricity, but that seemed so cliche, and there aren't enough good acid spells. I'm not sure about what level to make it, how much damage it should, or how long it should take to cast, so please give lote of good feedback. Thanks. :D

Okay, hows this?

Plane of Acid
Conjuration (creation) [acid]
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V,S,M
Casting Time: 3 rounds (18 seconds)
Range: Medium (100ft. + 10ft level)
Effect: One plane of acid/4 caster levels
Duration: 1 hour/Level
Saving Throw: Reflex half, will negates, see text
Spell Resistance: Yes
Origonally used by powerfull mages in high security prisons, it was later addopted for use in warfare. After seeing the spell's effectivness first hand, or hearing stories from grizzled vetrans, it soon bacame popular with young adventurers looking for a magical way to prepare the battlefield in their favor. Plane of acid creates multiple 10ft by 10ft planes of acidic energy. These planes may be placed horizontally, vertically, or at any angle in between. The plane of acid anchors itself to existence, so it may even be placed in midair. The caster may place the multiple planes almost anywhere she chooses, as long as they are within the spell's range. The planes do not need to be adjacent, and if they are placed within 30ft of another acid plane the magical fluctuations cause both acid planes to fail after 1 round. Any creature touching or passing through the plane of acid, whether completly or partialy, is subject to 3d8 nonleathal acid damage every round that they remain within the area. Creatures subject to this damage may attempt a reflex saving throw to reduce the amount of damage inflicted by half. If attempting to move through the plane, the creature must also succed at a will saving throw, or be slowed down as by the slow spell for 1 round per caster level. This spell is often used to ward an area against attackers, set up an ambush, or gaurd the rest of a tired mage. Material Component: A small sheet of glass etched with arcane runes worth 400gp.

Edit: Changed the spell's name, changed energy type from any to acid, clarified that plane may be placed in midair, increased cost of material component, increased range, made it possible place mutiple planes, added more description, made it nonleathal, and put in the failing if planes are to close together.

seems a lot like the existing wall of fire except for variable energies, increased duration, a material component, damage change, and a range reduction. but at a lower level.

i would say have the material compoent be 100 or 200 gp, crank the level up to 5 (effectively adding in a powerful extend spell feat) and fix the energy type. pretty much the only "spells" with mutable energy types are psionics. you could jack the level up to 6 to keep the mutable energy and get rid of the material component.

but i do like the idea. perhaps instead of doing damage the spell could act like actual barbed wire does: not to kill but to slow enemies down. a combined wind wall and entangle spell would probably be more effective as barbed wire.

:bump: Ok, I made a few changes. What do you think?
