| Luminous Crayon01-21-04, 01:59 AM | Wanderer's Cloak This simple, hooded garment is made of thick yet lightweight cloth, and protects its wearer from nonmagical extremes of weather. The wearer of a Wanderer's Cloak is kept comfortably warm in cold environments and pleasantly cool in warm environments, and is treated as being continually under the effects of an endure elements spell for as long as the cloak is worn. In addition, the cloak keeps out nonmagical rain, wind, snow, fog, and other inconvenient weather conditions, keeping its wearer dry and comfortable. The Cloak offers no protection against magically created weather, such as effects created by acid fog, gust of wind, storm of vengeance, and other effects. Market Price: 1,000 gp. Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, endure elements. Caster level 1st. |

| cwslyclgh01-21-04, 02:29 AM | handy little item :) |
| AlexanderHeppe01-21-04, 02:46 AM | Sounds almost like the good olī Boots of the Winterlands , without their ability to go over slippery surfaces and leaving no tracks on snow. But keeping in mind that the Boots only keep you warm as by the endure elements spell, while your cape keeps you cold in a , say, desert area, i think your item is a little bit cheap according to market price. IMO, bump the price to 1.500 GP and everything is fine... It is a very cool and practical item, though. I like it as well!! (edited for spelling) |
| channel_dunlap01-21-04, 03:06 AM | Very handy. I picked up a ring of Warmth during the winter seasons, and I turned into the group's gofer the whole time. "Hey, Judas, go find the Black Dragon lair. its somewhere underwater, and the water is too cold for us.". :: grumble :: Next Christmas that rolls around in-game, I think I'll pick everyone up this :) |
| NorthSaber01-21-04, 06:39 AM | I like the idea as well and have been playing with similar thoughts myself. Two notes though: 1) Since Endure Elements lasts for 24 hours per casting, technically you could make an item that simply casts the spell when worn, limited to once per day (dispelled if item is taken off and maybe resumed if put back on before 24 hours has passed). This would make the item much cheaper and thus more common (if this is desired). 2) If the added protection from rain is a problem, the elemental DR could be reduced, as it obviously isn't the main point of this item. I think DR 1 would be sufficient for countering "mundane" heat and cold (as it doesn't do actual damage but subdual), but the balancing of DR and cost is very subjective. |

It is almost a synonym for abusively and is often used to justify munchkinization. Yes, we are only talking about a low level spell. But this is the same method by which artifacts are munchkinized into affordable items by loopholing limited use, duration, and restricted user elements in order to get exactly the same outcome -- more for less. I think you constructed and priced a very attractive magic item. Good job! |
