| dankster122106-12-05, 10:16 AM | I am a DM who currently has a 5th level cleric in his party played by a D&D newbie. Last week I crafted her spell selection for her and I plan to do the same this week until she gets the hang of preparing her own spell lists. Her domains are Death and Trickery and she worships the God of Death (I use my own deities in my world) so she's going for the whole necromantic cleric type deal and I don't want to short her on good offensive spells. Any suggestions??? -dan(k) |

Starting new players at any level besides 1st or 2nd gives them too much detail to master too quickly. Make her a rogue (or fighter) 4 / cleric 1 so that the spellcasting thing can start from scratch. She pick up spellcasting from the beginning, adding a little more knowledge each level in chunks she can handle. Going the rogue route will give her some combat ability and fit in with the trickery domain. |

There is actually a thread being started (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=446201) on ranking the Cleric spell list. Besides necromancy, what are her other roles? This is important in spell selection; does she plan on fighting, buffing others, protection spells, divinations, or offensive casting? |
