However, Ray of Enfeeblement, as well as certain other spells and abilities, cause an ability "penalty". Is there ANYWAY to heal/prevent/minimize this "penalty". It seems odd that Heal and can remove all kinds of things, but this 1st level spell can lower my Strength by a max of 11 without my 20th level Cleric being able to do anything about it. |
| Father Dale06-27-06, 10:45 AM | Ability penalties can be removed with any of the restoration spells, even lesser restoration. These spells instantly remove any such penalties if the penalties are imposed via magic effects. Restoration, Lesser Conjuration (Healing) Level: Clr 2, Drd 2, Pal 1 Components: V, S Casting Time: 3 rounds Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) Lesser restoration dispels any magical effects reducing one of the subject’s ability scores or cures 1d4 points of temporary ability damage to one of the subject’s ability scores. It also eliminates any fatigue suffered by the character, and improves an exhausted condition to fatigued. It does not restore permanent ability drain. Dispell Magic and similiar effects can dispell an ability penalty if it is imposed via magic. (With certain exceptions, such as penalties from Bestow Curse which would require something more than just the 3rd lvl dispell magic.) That being said, theres something to be said for letting Heal dispell penalties (although maybe not from bestow curse or similiar effects). If Lesser Restoration can do it, I think that Heal could. |
| Puca06-27-06, 10:45 AM | Its an on-going magical effect, which means that you can simply dispel it. |
| tarkin06-27-06, 10:49 AM | Lesser Restoration will remove most of them. As will Dispell Magic if the spell has a duration besides Instant |
| nosfera206-27-06, 11:32 AM | "Simply" dispelling it isn't always an option when my party members have 15 buffs up at once. Does anyone know of a spell from any source that can remove these penalties faster than a 3 round casting time? |
| tarkin06-27-06, 11:40 AM | You are allowed to target a single specific spell for dispelling. So a Dispell Magic can remove one penalty in one round. |
| nosfera206-27-06, 11:51 AM | I'm sorry, what I was thinking is when they have multiple penalties, dispel magic is not as practical. One of those times when I was thinking it but didn't type it. Ok, continuing on this track, is there anyway to remove these penalties from non-magical effects such as the Weakening Touch feat from Complete Warrior? And to clarify, would a supernatural effect that imposes a penalty be considered magical for purposes of Restoration? |
