| Valier_Magehand10-02-03, 05:55 AM | I'm working on a story...involving a lich that in life was obsessed with acidic spells....and am looking for new spells i can use in my story. Also any magical items based around acid would be nice. |
| Bait the Bard10-02-03, 06:14 AM | energy substitution (and the other one, cant remember its name) from Tome and blood. it lets you add and swap energy types (eg acid ball- 3d6 fire+3d6 acid) |
| Seeker9510-02-03, 08:41 AM | Go through the spell list and find every [fire][cold][sonic][force][electricity] spell (and maybe [positive] and [negative], and consider the effects of making it [acid] instead. Caution: Acid tends to be more powerful than the majority of these (except maybe sonic, positive and negative), so you might consider raising the level or limiting the effect for each conversion. And as Bait suggested, Energy Substitution can do this for you, but at a spell slot penalty. |
| Thelon Fairblade10-02-03, 08:47 AM | The recent Dragon made a list of suggestions for clerics of Auril (a winter/ice diety). Instead of the raw mechanic of Energy Substitution, it renamed or slightly redefined spells. For example, Burning Hands (Wiz 1) becomes Frost Fingers (Clr 2). Flesh to Stone (Wiz 6) becomes Flesh to Ice (Clr 7). Flame Strike becomes Ice Strike. Similarly, you could simply say the lich researched his own non-metamagic version of spells. Burning Hands -> Acid Spray Flaming Sphere -> Gelled Acid Fireball -> Acidic Explosion Lightning Bolt -> Acid Lance Fire Shield -> Acid Shroud Cone of Cold -> Acid Spray, Greater Ice Storm -> Acidic Storm (perhaps rains acid-coated blades for slashing and acid damage instead of bludgeoning and cold) Meteor Swarm -> Acidic Armageddon |
| Edymnion10-02-03, 10:33 AM | Don't forget to give your lich some levels in Elemental Savant (Earth), as he'll get some nifty bonuses when using acid spells, as well as some downright scary bonuses. |
| toomre10-03-03, 03:31 PM | Bait, the other feat you're thinking of is Energy Admixture. I agree with Edymnion, you'd want a few levels of earth elemental savant in order to get some immunity to any acid you might decide to throw around yourself, plus enhanced damage potential with your acid spells. Seeker, I would not add a spell level modifier for Energy Substitution[Acid], it's true that fewer creatures have immunity to it than fire or cold, but just bumping it up by one spell level is somewhat arbitrary. Wouldn't you have to bump up sonic as well, how would you modify Energy Admixture, or the Archmage's mastery of energy? Perhaps there's some errata or faq on this topic that I've missed, if so please ignore my ignorance and move on. :) Also, Seeker mentioned [positive] and [negative], these are not actually descriptors, he was probably thinking of [good] and [evil], or [death], however these aren't energy types so it's not technically possible to use Energy Substitution on them, but I'm sure a DM can bend the rules a bit to make a better story or a better NPC. |
| Thelon Fairblade10-03-03, 04:09 PM | Magic of Faerun also has the Acid Splash cantrip (d3 to one target), and Acid Storm (level 7, inflicts 1d6 per caster level (max 15d6) in a 20' by 20' cylinder). |
| Thelon Fairblade10-06-03, 10:09 AM | Another MoF Spell: Corrosive Grasp. Essentially an Acidic Shocking Graps, it does 1d6+1 acid damage, 1 touch per level. |
| RaspK FOG10-09-04, 01:00 PM | Energy Substitution and its chain of feats work with the following energy types: Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, and Sonic. |
| diaboli10-09-04, 10:16 PM | More MoF acid spells: Mestil's Acid Breath: You breath a cone of acid that deals 1d6/level (max 10d6) Mestil's Acid Sheath: Surrounds you in a sheath of acid that harms foes attacking you for 1d6 +2/level |
