I've been reading through complete mage and i've noticed that two of the prestige classes have abilities that add to magic damage.

With a spell like fireball, i'm assuming that for an area effect spell that the damage is applied to each target, but i was specifically wondering about how ( Sonic Might, for instance) would apply in the following cases:

1. Spells which deal damage over time (painful echos deals d4 damage per round at a second level spell: does this increase to d4+2d6 ever round??)

2. Spells that don't deal damage (this is probably restricted by to sonic might, but it only requires that the spell be a sonic subtype, not a damaging spell)

3. Spells that create buffing effects (such as applying sonic damage to weapons)

Also, is there any difference (because of wording) with the righteous evocation ability?

(given that bards gain quite a few of these damage-over-time abilities, i'm wondering whether this was factored into the ability)
