| Dirty Dan the Laundry Man09-15-04, 01:15 PM | I am full aware of the 1 round casting time mechanics needed for Summon Monster spells. What confuses me is what happen when, if say, I cast an Extended Summon Monster spell (+1 caster level for Extend). Due to metamagic spell mechanics, the casting time is increased ... but what does that do to 1 round casting time compared to the typical 1 standard action casting time? Just *WHEN* does my summoned monster arrive? Thanks! |

As I understand how Sorcerers and metamagic work (never played or DMed one), your spell would take an additional 1 round to cast. Your monster would appear at the beginning of your initiative on the 3rd round. Round One: Begin casting the spell. Round Two: (Monster would usually appear before your action here) Continue casting due to applied metamagic. Round Three: Monster appears at the beginning of your turn and acts. You act. |

Your monster would appear at the beginning of your initiative on the 3rd round. Not quite - it takes an additional full round action, not an additional round. You would take a full round action in round 1 and continue casting until just before your initiative in round 2, as normal; then you would take a full round action in round 2 to complete the casting, at which point the monster would appear. It's still your turn, if you have a 5' step or free action you wish to take; the spell completes before the next character in round 2 acts. -Hyp. |
