A bard in the campaign I am running wants to add a couple sorcerer/wizard spells to the Bard spell list

1st Level:
Shield

2nd Level:
Bull's Strength
Bear's Endurance

He argues that since bard's get every other 2nd level stat buff, strength and con should also be available. I see his point and it seems like a flavor restriction rather than a balance restriction to me.

Would allowing him to add these three spells to the class list be horribly broken (at level 12 and up), or would it be fairly safe to let them slide?

Well, if he really wants to have sorcerer spells, let him take the sublime chord prestige class.

But anyway, no it doesn't break the bard class to let him have those spells.

I don't think it's broken, no. Personally I don't see why they would have shield, but bull's strength and bear's endurance work for me. It seems like the kind of effects a bard could instill with his music (which is, I believe the flavor used in the PHB to describe how a bard uses spells. I'm not talking about Bardic Music, either.)
So I would not allow shield, because I don't think bards should have it, not because it breaks the classes balance.
After all, Bards are already weak. They only serve to buff up the party, so let them buff up the party.

You should not allow these. Shield is a core Wiz/Sor spell and should be denied.

On the stat buffs, why should you allow Bards to get all stat buffs when Cleric/Druid can not? It is a balance issue and I would also deny it.

I would allow the buffs but not shield.
