Bestow Curse is listed as having one of the following three effects upon the targeted subject: –6 decrease to an ability score (minimum 1).
–4 penalty on attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks.
Each turn, the target has a 50% chance to act normally; otherwise, it takes no action.
Additionally from the SRD, the spell's description states, "You may also invent your own curse, but it should be no more powerful than those described above." With that in mind, has anyone created any other effects for Bestow Curse?

Best I've heard was the 'Accoding to the prophecy" curse in the 1st campaign I played in.

No matter what you said, you were forced to spit out the phrase "According to the prophecy" afterwards. So it came to somehting like this in RP "YEs I'll have a pint of Ale....*grumble* *sputter* *gag*... ACCORDING TO THE PROPHECY!....Aw g'damnit"

LOL

one could create a huge library of funny/effective curses to use on people:

Chesire cat curse: no matter how dire the situation, how sad the event or horrible the act, you must ALWAYS have a large toothy grin. even in your sleep.

Sylvester's spits when talking curse: need i say more?

Trog's reverse-stench curse: causes all non-enemies 5ft near him to make a DC (same as bestow curse) fortitude check or be nauseated (like a reverse trog "stench") this means that anyone he views as a treat/enemy are the only people unaffected by his smell...

Grontar's pinch the female host's / waitress's buttox curse: great at parties / social events! anytime a female of any species that you can identify as a female (human, halfling, elf, orc, kobold, whatever) comes within arm's lenght of you, you MUST pinch whichever butt cheek is closest to you. i can see the king's ball now...

Harry's bad hair day curse: not bad, but a huge annoyance when used on a vain PC/NPC/BBEG that has great pride in his looks.

Godwin's annoying twich curse:causes a -1 on all attack rolls and a -5 penalty while socializing. you have a twitch in your eye, neck&shoulder that you just cannot control :twitch:

He he he! Good ones!

Here are some other ones I thought about:

-Curse of the Clenched Fists: Whoever has the curse cast upon sees his fists immediately tighten, holding anything he/she is carrying without any chance to let it go (empty hands result in a player having to fight unarmed, while characters holding weapons might have problems entering say... taverns...)

-Curse of Inebriety: The target of the spell is automatically drunk and can't seem to sober up. The effects of such alcohol intoxication (according to Tournaments, Fairs & Taverns, a pretty useful 3rd party book) are: -4 penality to attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks and Reflex saves; +2 temporary hit points per hit die; can safely take one partial action each round, but must make a balance check every round (falls on failure). Must make a Concentration check (DC 5 + spell level) to cast spells or take similar action. Finally, the affected target enjoys a +4 bonus to Will saves against Fear effects. This one mighy be a little too powerful for the bestow curse spell, though. Maybe it'd work better for bestow greater curse... One might want to use the effect of being "merry" instead: all of the above values are halved (penalty on checks and such, temporary hit points and Will save bonus...), it has no effect on movement, but the Concentration check (DC 5 + spell level) is still required as above.

-Curse of Uncomely Manners: All of the NPCs initial attitudes towards the affected character are one category worse than normal (as per the rules for influencing NPCs).

-Curse of Shouting: Pretty self-explanatory -- the character acts normaly, except that he can't talk without shouting (funny in stealth-based missions).

-Curse of Clumsyness: Character must make a Reflex save (DC 15) every round to avoid accidentally dropping what he/she's holding. Also, he/she has to make a balance check (DC 10) to move without tripping and falling.

-Curse of Eternal Hunger: The character is always hungry, suffering a -2 penalty on attack rolls, skill and ability checks, and saves from lack of concentration. He/she won't know when to stop eating. If the character doesn't eat at least once per hour, he/she gets pretty irritable (additionnal -4 penality to all Charisma-based checks -- except intimidate, which gets a +4 bonus instead). Were the character to eat more than twice his daily need in food/water, he becomes fatigued for an hour (while he digests...)

check the Book of Vile Darkness for additional Curses
It's actually 3.0 but since they didn't change bestow curse (other than changing school from transmutation to necromancy), these curses should also be not to powerfull for 3.5

Curse of the Jibber-Jabber Fool! - causes the cursed person to spout out odd, senseless phrases randomly and at the most inoppertune times.

Curse of the howling moon - a normally harmless curse, everytime the character is outside, or in a room with a window, he MUST howl at the moon every 20 minutes at the top of his lungs. if he his gagged, he must try to remove the gag. if not possible, he must try to howl anyways. this does not stop him from sleeping, though he still howl loudly when sleeping (instead of snoring, he howls :P)

curse of the nasal voice: funny at first, annoying later

curse of the groin-kicked voice: talks like one of the chipmunks

curse of the puppy kicker: causes the cursed person to kick any small cute animal he sees. he will approach to kick it, but will not persue if it runs away.

curse of the venerable man/woman: he/she thinks he/she is an old person. the stats don't go down or anything, they just think they're old. hair also becomes white until uncursed.

curse of the cursed: kinda funny name, but the person becomes paranoid that they have a dangerous and fatal powerful curse, they just dont know what it is. becomes jumpy, a bit defensive and a nervous wreck. otherwise they are perfectly fine.

curse of the monkey: they begin to act like they are monkeys. this varies by person to person, since he/she keeps his identity, they just gain the mannerisms of a monkey(scratches themselves. does "ook ook ah ah ah" from time to time, climbs trees without thinking, ect...).

You have to drink 1 gallon of other creature´s blood every day or get an acumulative per night -1 morale to hit, damage, saves and skill checks.

Feel free to use the metric system. Most everyone here can perform unit conversions via Google (or elsewhere online), as necessary.

Here's one for bestow greater curse:
Bad luck: The cursed subject takes a -1 penalty on all rolls of a d20 (saving throws, skill checks, attack rolls, etc). This penalty is applied to the roll itself though, so a natural 20 is treated as a natural 19 for all purposes, a 19 is treated as an 18, and both 2 and 1 are treated as a natural 1.
Evil huh?

Actual in the BoVD it has an alternate curse much like that. Only difference is that only a roll of 20 is changed. It is effectively a roll of 1 instead.

My evil curse of the day:

Crush Mementos
The recipient forgets totally anything about the most loved person he have or the caster person of this election if he know him. That person will just disapear from memories, the recipient can still remember situations where the person apeared, but he cant see or hear he.
--
This curse is specially efective if you use it in a king for making him forget his only one son.

Hmm...
Curse of Cheese: Target now craves cheese, like Wallace.

Curse of the Idle Hand: A spell i invented a while ago. The target's non-dominant hand (left for the ambidextrous) gains mental scores of it's own, the ability to gain control over the hand like a magic weapon with an ego of 20, over the forearm with an ego of 17 and the upper arm with an ego of 15.

THe hand won't kill the user, but it's alignment is the polar opposite, random for neutrals. Used on theives, as it slaps their hand when they try to steal.

I can also see it on high priests and altar boys ( :P ) or on the BBEG ( :evillaugh ) stopping him throwing the switch that awakens his greatest creation.

Also, the hand opposes habits. So it spills your pint, et cetera. It can 'drag' you 10 feet in a direction with an ego of 15, if it really needs to.
