| Douglas Zuver02-26-06, 08:02 AM | I am thinking about having a Healer (new official class created in the Miniature's Handbook) research this spell using the guidelines in the DMG. It will cost about 1000 gp for the research. The character is similair to Florence Nightingale, so a spell to clean Hospitals would be interesting to have. It is an advanced version of this spell: Prestidigitation Universal Level: Brd 0, Sor/Wiz 0 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 10 ft. Target, Effect, or Area: See text Duration: 1 hour Saving Throw: See text Spell Resistance: No Prestidigitations are minor tricks that novice spellcasters use for practice. Once cast, a prestidigitation spell enables you to perform simple magical effects for 1 hour. The effects are minor and have severe limitations. A prestidigitation can slowly lift 1 pound of material. It can color, clean, or soil items in a 1-foot cube each round. It can chill, warm, or flavor 1 pound of nonliving material. It cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters. Prestidigitation can create small objects, but they look crude and artificial. The materials created by a prestidigitation spell are extremely fragile, and they cannot be used as tools, weapons, or spell components. Finally, a prestidigitation lacks the power to duplicate any other spell effects. Any actual change to an object (beyond just moving, cleaning, or soiling it) persists only 1 hour. Since this spell can be very handy, I wanted a Divine version of it, eventually I made it stronger as well. |

It destroys mold, mildew, and other flith that it contacts. Normal surface dirt is removed and left in a neat pile placed where the spell caster wants within the range of the spell. It cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters. |

Divine Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 10 ft./Level Target, Effect, or Area: See text Duration: 1 hour/Level Saving Throw: See text Spell Resistance: No Merry Maid cleans items and surfaces (including walls, floors, and ceilings) in a 10-foot cube each round. It destroys mold, mildew, and other flith that it contacts. Normal surface dirt is removed and left in a neat pile placed where the spell caster wants within the range of the spell. The pile of dirt can be moved along as the spell caster moves. If used in a natural setting, consider rocks as surfaces, plants as items. The ground itself can have filth that is on it destroyed. It cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters. |
| Douglas Zuver02-26-06, 04:20 PM | Merry Maid Universal Level: Cleric 1, Healer 1 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: : Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target, Effect, or Area: See text Duration: 1 hour + 1 hour/Level Saving Throw: See text Spell Resistance: No Once cast, a Merry Maid spell enables you to perform magical effects for the duration of the spell. Performing a function requires a move action. Merry Maid can lift 1 pound per level of material and move it at a rate of 10 feet per move action. This cannot be used as an attack. A dropped object will descend at a rate of 1 foot per round until the spell expires. It can clean items or surfaces in a 10-foot cube each move action. During this it will purify liquids from nonmagical elements as long as the Spellcaster understands what the liquid is. Air is purifed from nonmagical elements in the 10-foot cube. Continually using this spell on a large body of water or a large amount of air will gradually 99% purify it. Cleaning a door will remove rust, mildew, a coating of poison on the lock, mold, and dust from it. It can chill, warm, or flavor 1 pound per level of nonliving material. Filth and other undesirable elements twinkle away when touched by the spell. Large amounts of normal dirt is simply rolled up into a ball which the Spellcaster can move around and add to while they are cleaning a big area. If performed in nature, it will purify dirt surfaces from mold, mildew and other filth; it will clean off rocks and plants, but the dirt simply falls to the ground. It cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters. |

The flavoring is retained even after the spell expires. To use the flavoring part of this spell, a Material component of a small amount of spice worth at least 2 cp is required. It can color sufaces at a rate of 1 square inch per Spellcaster Level. This can be used in detail to make simple letters and drawings. If one has a lettering, drawing or drafting profession, make a Profession Skill Check when using this spell to create quality works of their choosen field. To use the color part of this spell, a Material Component of a vial of ink worth 8 gp is required. Merry Maid can lift 1 pound per Spellcaster Level of material and move it at a rate of 10 feet per move action. This cannot be used as an attack. A dropped object will descend at a rate of 1 foot per round until the spell expires. It will not move air or a gaseous substance. It can clean items or surfaces in a 10-foot cube each move action. The items return to temparature at a normal rate. If used on a continual basis, chilling or warming various objects such as rocks and clothes can reduced the effects of extreme temperatures. It can cook food if the spell is used on the food for at least 15 minutes. To make the flavoring be retained after the spell expires, a Material component of an amount of spice worth at least 1 sp must be added to the spell when it is cast. It can color sufaces of 1 square inch per Spellcaster Level for each move action. This can be used as a solid color or in detail to make simple letters and drawings. It can also restore a surface to its orginal color. (If one has a lettering, drawing or drafting profession, make a Profession Skill Check when using this spell to create quality works of their choosen field. This takes extra time consisting of 1 move action times the Skill Check score for each 1 square inch per Spellcaster level that it is used on.) To make the color or uncoloring part of this spell permanent, a Material Component of a vial of ink worth 8 gp is required. Otherwise the color or uncolor effects all disappear when the spell stops. The arcane focus for this spell is an elaborate silver and gold three inch broom worth 50 gp. |
| NthDegree25603-01-06, 03:24 PM | Well, I like it. It has its own flavor to it that fits well with the "hospital" theme. That said, I think the earlier versions felt like divine spells, as if the room was being cleansed by spirits or holy forces. The newest one, with its minor telekinesis and artsy detailing, seems more like the kind of thing you'd see in a wizard's home - more in line with arcane spells. That's just a personal opinion, though. |
| Douglas Zuver03-01-06, 03:40 PM | Thanks for the advice, I think I might shift back to this: Is this too powerful for a 0 level spell? After all, it just cleans things. Cost to research 500 gp. | jedi_unger03-01-06, 04:01 PM | Isn't unseen servant a 2nd level arcane spell? So shouldn't your 'Merry Maid' spell be at least that level, perhaps a 3rd level arcane spell? By 'advanced', you basically mean an unseen servant that can cast a 0 level arcane spell at will. As a 0 level divine spell. Or course, some people don't like mid-level spells that have only creative combat use. 'Can destroy mold,' germs or poison would certainly be useful even in high level combat. Every mage/cleric would have one around. |
| Douglas Zuver03-01-06, 04:09 PM | I already have create water. I will have Create Food and Water as a third level spell. So dropping the cooking is fine. I will not have endure elements. So, I might miss the warm / chill clothing effect, but I doubt it would help much in a blizzard. Might be fun to have my character cleaning up the dungeon as we walk along. Diplomacy and Healing are the character's strong points anyway. |
| Douglas Zuver03-01-06, 04:12 PM | Unseen Servant in 3.5 is a 1st level spell. Make Whole in 3.5 is a 2nd level spell. Knock in 3.5 is a 2nd level spell. Neutralize Poison in 3.5 is a 4th level spell, but it cure poison inside the person and makes them immune to poison. Frankly, I would take the last version of the spell as a 0 level or 1st level spell. (The divine one with cleaing on it.) However, this does open the discussion to the fact that the spell listed right before it would make a very interesting Arcane spell. What level would it be? |

'Can destroy mold,' germs or poison would certainly be useful even in high level combat. Every mage/cleric would have one around. Agreed, if I have to, perhaps I could sell the spell to others to offset the cost of researching it. My character wanted to give the spell away to others in her healing guild as a friendship thing. I just checked and research for spells are: 0 level 500 gp 1 level 1000 gp 2 level 2000 gp 3 level 3000 gp Not as bad as I thought. |

| jedi_unger03-02-06, 12:28 PM | If it can't actually destory combat mold, unpoison monsters & weapons, remove germs from infected NPC's etc. and can only do normal cleaning, Level 3 is pretty high. Level 2 would be better. You pretty much nerfed the loopholes that made it too good. |
| Douglas Zuver03-02-06, 07:14 PM | While it might not seem combat powerful, it is still a very strong spell. Thanks everybody for the help. |

It will also neutralize acids or bases on it. Glue holding the door together or grease inside its hinges is not affected by this spell. Since nature is a delicate balance, this spell functions differently in a natural setting. When Merry Maid is performed in nature, it will purify ground surfaces from manmade filth. It will clean off rocks and plants, but in this case the dirt simply falls to the ground. (Dirt piles are never formed in a natural setting.) Natural occurring impurities are only removed from the surface of the ground if the Spellcaster designates them as undesirable. If desired, the spell can purify the entire soil since it is a loose solid. This will not affect solid substances such as rocks within the soil. When changing the entire soil, the Spellcaster must have an understanding of what the soil is like and indicate what is undesirable in the soil. Acidic or Base levels in the soil can be lowered but never increased. This must be carefully done since some plants prefer certain types of soil. Salt and other elements that prevent plant growth can be purified into soil if desired. Leaves, small sticks and other dead material up to 3 pounds in weight can be gathered into compost piles or ignored by this spell depending on the Spellcaster's desires. Litter piles are formed in any setting and they are a separate pile from dirt and compost piles. If used around ink, paint and other surface coatings of that nature, the spell will not remove these things unless the Spellcaster considers them undesirable and concentrates on removing them. It will not restore damage done by rust, mold, acid, mildew, and other effects of filth, weathering or aging. It does not change the natural abilities a monster may have such as a poison bite.
