I've got a player that received three wishes from a DoMT and two are way more than "wish" allows... I'd like advise on how best to play them out..

First know that hes a relatively new player...

He wished for:

(1) Level 20 (metagaming I know)

(2) The ability to be invisible at will.

(3) Specific knowledge on something - this is easy.. no help needed

Items 1 and 2.. how might you handle these wishes?

Alittle history. Due to bad luck(dieing) and some poor draws this charcter is back to level 1. Thats what made him really wish for level 20 when he found out he had to make a wish quickly.

(1) Level 20 (metagaming I know)
Such wishes shouldn't be ever fulfilled like that.
Interpret it in non-metagaming way. He disappears and appears at 20th level of dungeon.

(2) The ability to be invisible at will.
This is far more reasonable.
If you think it's not too powerful, give him spell-like ability Invisibility at will (remember, this takes standard action to use and ends when he attacks, I would make it CL equal to his HD, min.3)
If you think it's too powerful, give him the same, but either make it "works only once" or give some drawback (like when he's invisible, he cannot see anything either, still useful if he has good Listen).

Ok, the invisibility at will is easy... give him a ring of invisibility. That's not outside of a Wish spell ability. Depending on the circumstances, it's possible it is a prized possession of someone else though... but be sparing with this sort of thing.

The specific knowledge... treat it as a Legend Lore or whatver higher spell there is... I think Vision is the one I'm thinking of.

The level 20? Well, it is outside of the ability of a Wish spell. IF you want to grant it to him, did he specify what kind of level 20? If not, roll a random level 20 creature...anything from commoner to an advanced creature (20 HD). Of course, at this point he becomes an NPC.

However, you 'could' rule that the Wish spell attempts to bring him to level 20, but only ends up reversing the poor results of his previous draws (whatever dropped his level in the first place)... in doing so, it raises him to whatever level he started out at, minus a level for dying.

1. Oh, sure, he can be level 20. In about 100 years. Wish might be able to grant XP, but not that much. Or it could grant it the hard way- summon a powerful monster who if defeated, would grant a lot of XP. Now, the wish could undo whatever it was that dropped him to level 1, as part of the "undo misfortune" aspect of a wish's power.

2. So he wants a use-activated/ continuous, unslotted magic item of invisibility. But it would only last 3 minutes per use (he would have to keep reactivating it), and would cancel any time invisibility would, such as whenever he attacked.

3. Wish can duplicate spells. If he wants knowleage of something, have it equivalent to a high-level divination spell.

I am assuming that he started out at level 20. If so, then this is within the ability of a wish. Simply have it so that the deck was never drawn from. This would reverse all his other draws as well since he was not specific enough. This would also deal with the invisibility at will as well. The ring mentioned earlier is a good way to handle it.

The first wish is definitely the tricky one. I like the undo previous level loss idea personally if it is most appropriate. If the player doesn't like that option (say he's only would be level 16 or so) you could drop encounters on him to power level him to that point. A third option would be to allow the wish to just grant XP to the character although I admit not knowing how much is appropriate.

does the PC know the general limits of wish? if not inform him/her and see if he/she wants to re-evaluate their wishes.

are you using the old DOMT, where it was a rare magic item, or the 3.5 version where it's - rightfully - a minor artifact? this IMO makes a difference as to the power lvl the wishes could provide.

that said, here's my thoughts based on what little info you've provided.
1) 20th lvl: this one should simply fail or "have no apparent effect". or to be really mean, grant it, but have the PC instantly age 1d10 years for each lvl gained.
2) invisible at will: polymorph the PC into a creature that has this ability - such as a pixie.

yes... wishing for "level 20" should have the same results than wishing for an atomic bomb...

making him lose xp for out of place metagaming.

Put him on the 20th level of a dungeon. It is level 20. :)

Which was the only thing any of my characters ever used it for, an Artifact. It was Disjunction Insurance. Nobody, not even the insane, would risk burning themselves out by casting Disjunction on somebody carrying an Artifact, which the Deck was.

As for the Lvl 20 thing, he's asking for it, screw him over. He immediantly gains enough levels in commoner to become lvl 20. He never said WHAT he wanted to be level 20 in. Of course, he would not gain any skill points or feats from those levels, as he didn't have time to learn them. He would only gain hitdice and save increases from his commoner levels. If you want to be especially mean, strip away his pre-existing levels, and make him a straight up lvl 20 commoner.

Time to make a new character, or use another Wish to undo the effects.
And next time, tell him not to act like a munchkin.

Make him the familiar of a 20th level wizard. He has effectively 20 HD, and decent hit points if you don't gimp Constitution on his wizard master. Which I would. He is now a magical rat bonded to an aged necromancer, who might very well end up dying from old age within the year. Or make him a 20th level awakened trout. Being scaled. Immediately prior to consumption. Then tell him to roll up a new character. And he has to be a small race, because that's what munchkins are.
