I'm fairly new to 3.5 and I was wondering. In 1.0 and 2.0 there were longevity potions to explain how human wizards lived for centuries. What is the replacement in 3.5?

I have no idea but i would like to know too. I bet that they take forever to make though, and probaly with costly componets.

In 3.5, elven wizards live for centuries. Human wizards (and other short-lived races) must find a way to become not-human, or die at the end of their normal lifespan. Explains why lichdom is an attractive option. In earlier editions, lichdom was not needed... why would anyone want to become one?

You also get a slew of immunities and the ability to keep coming back, provided your phylactery remains intact.

IMC, I allow people to use wishes to extend their lifespan should they decide to spend the 5k xp to do so. It doesnt have much of a mechanical effect, so its hardly unbalancing.

By the Fluff for earlier editions, excessive use of Longevity potions could lead to lich status.
