Hiya guys, odd request but I was just wondering what spells (or powers) you were all aware of that allow for the aging of either creatures or materials.

Also how would you go about making a spells designed to age objects? (making them brittle, rust or have other affects).

Thanks!

There is already a rusting grasp (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/rustingGrasp.htm) spell, so you have that.
As for the aging, if I am wearing my DM hat I have a lot of things better to do with my time than figure out an aging progression for every single race listed in every single book, so I would allow you to research the spell up until the point where you discovered that it couldn't be done. :)
Either that or combine various physical stat damaging spells into a single spell and allow the concept to be that the target is rapidly aging, though limited to the extent that when/if they regain their stats, they are reverting to their previous age.

as for objects, i'm thinking a mid or low level transmutation that reduces/eliminates an objects hardness and/or lowers it's hp to represent the brittleness of aging objects...however, certain material types should be immune, as there are real materials that effectively stay the same forever

I belive their is a spell in compleat mage (spell check on then name ^_^) that is a touch attack spell that dose temporary aging that lasts 1day/level and has no save for the inital attack but the target must make a fort save every 24hrs to avoid further aging... I forget the name atm

Well pritty much any material suffers from age.. stone erodes, metal rusts, wood rots (or cracks) and leather cracks as well. I would say that some crystals like diamonds are immune though as they take such a huge amount of time to age that some probably still linger from before life even knew what it was. Most items an adventurer would carry would be applicable though.

Also i dont supose anyone knows roughly how long time takes to damage various materials approximatly? obviously because this is a spell i think its logical to conclude that it ages the material with the asumption that its not tended to i.e not pollishing of swords etc...

I agree a spell that incurrs an amount damage to a materials harness and hit points per year rolled sounds logical, Its also logical to conclude that when a materials hardness hits 0 the hp damage increases dramatically (x2 or x3).

right, but i added the part about possible materials that don't age just in case...i didn't want to leave room for exploiting or for people to take advantage of the spell due to a lack of wording

you're idea about the years rolled and stuff is a good way of handling such a spell, of course the problem of what affects does aging have on wood vs. on metal is still a problem, so it might just be easier to have one set of damage done to all objects

I agree, its best not to make it needlessly complex
