I'm interested in the elemental magic of Air, subtle and strong, but I'm wondering; what kind of effects could an air-mage accomplish exactly?

There are of course the effects of creating an unseen force to help you in battle (Unseen Servant, Gust of Wind), moving something more subtely (Telekinesis), giving you boosts of speed, flying or levitating, or maybe even manipulating the weather.
But are there more things one could do with Air magic?

Though specific spells are always welcome, just 'things you can do with it' are enough (I only have the core rulebooks and SRD anyway :shifty: )

Thanks

Perhaps all spells with the Electricity Descriptor, and what is found in the Clerical Air domain.

Then with imagination... A really strong air spell could even be a short-range damaging spell (slashing damage!), it could pick up your enemies in the air and let them drop (perhaps kind of like reverse gravity), it could take the breath away from your enemy (suffocation!), and with more imagination, close him in a tiny tornado and tear him up implosion-like.

I've always associated lightning magic with air magic, but that's just me.

True, though I usually see lightning as a combination of Air and Fire, you could use Air alone to create static electricity
Or you could use it to manipulate preasure and create sound (deafening, resonating frequencie of bone or steel, ...)
Thanks for the help so far :)

I never really saw the lightning connection. Sure, storms have lightning, so what.

For me, air always screamed out SONIC attack.

Take a look at the Shugenja spell list in Complete Divine... They have a listing of air spells.

And don't forget the Whirlwind family of spells... quite powerful.

I played a Weather based Wizard once, here's the spell-list I had. The only problem with this list is that it does not include what books I got the spells from. Sorry about that.

I am thinking the "Air" school of spells from Heroes of Might & Magic III - the lightning attacks, spells like "Haste", some protections, and "Reveal Air" that showed the location of artifacts.

Sonic and Air, could work, I guess. I never really saw Sound as an element (Orb of Sound, omg!).

My friend has been working on a homebrew Wind Mage class for a while now. It's actually a partial caster (Bard prgression), but the idea is the same.

He took pretty much any and all [Air] spells, obviously. Beyond that, he focused a lot on celerity, going with the whole "wind = fast" thing. He gave it a bunch of miscellaneous spells that he felt fit the flavor, too. The spells that he created himself tended to go along with those themes. He kept the damaging stuff to a minimum, too.

Ah... it'd be easier to ask him to advise you himself, but he isn't registered here. Pity he isn't, too, 'cause I think the class could stand to be looked at by the folks on the "Classes and Prestige Classes" board...

Anyway, I'm sorry I can't be of too much help, except to say that the SpC would make your life much easier if you had access to it; it has a ton of [Air] spells.
