| RancorClaw10-10-07, 04:28 AM | Recently, my Chaotic-Good Favored Soul woke up in his bedroll to find a werewolf staring at him. He ultimately survived the encounter, but he was cursed with Lycanthropy. Since his alignment will now change to match that of the werewolf (Chaotic-Evil,) will this affect his ability to cast spells? I know deities are a bit picky about whom they provide spells to, and on top of that, this character was designed to focus on Healing. Just in case I won't be able to correct this cursed problem, (:D bad pun,) what exactly could happen to him? As an Evil character, I doubt he'll want to provide many others with healing, even if Apollo actually still gave him power for spells. But unlike normal Clerics, he can't just choose to get Inflict Wound spells instead of Cure Wound spells. Would he have (/get) to relearn those spells, or would he just be stuck with them? (Could he even use them anymore, even though he probably won't want to?) And can he change his patron deity to match his new alignment? Are there any rituals or ceremonies or anything that are required, or can he just wake up one day and say "I'd like to worship [Insert Name Here] from now on."? |
| zeratulcraft10-10-07, 09:00 AM | Pretty sure Favoured Souls have an alignment requirement, for one thing, which must match their deities...so if it aint the same, you need a new god. Also, neither cure nor inflict spells have alignment tags, so you can cast them as you wish. And far as I remember, there's no way listed for a Favored Soul to change who he's Favored by. |

I know deities are a bit picky about whom they provide spells to, and on top of that, this character was designed to focus on Healing. You don't turn evil for good. Unless you want to be evil and turn into a wolf by choice (than you are permanently evil). If changing not by choice: you turn back alignment when you become human. The idea is you get tempted with the power and use it to beat someone up: But using it voluntarily turns you evil. | groveborn10-11-07, 06:31 AM | Even if you can't have the curse removed (easily done btw), you could always ask a friendly cleric or druid to perform their atonement spell for you. That'll make you nicely properly aligned again. For free I might add (for them). |

Also, neither cure nor inflict spells have alignment tags, so you can cast them as you wish. Good Clerics can't spontaneously cast Inflict spells, and Evil Clerics can't spontaneously cast Cure spells. I don't recall off the top of my head how Favored Souls interact with this. |
| ArcTan10-11-07, 04:55 PM | My advice is to get the affliction cured ASAP. It's a pain in the ass more than it is a benefit, unless you take care to build or re-build your character around your lycanthropic abilities. Level Adjustment is also very annoying. A spellcaster character like yours really doesn't want to waste a bunch of levels on being a lycanthrope rather than having spells. Remember that even if you fully succumb to the curse, you can still be cured by having remove curse or break enchantment cast on you during the full moon, if you can get your party to put you in a cage long enough to do it. Of course, after your alignment changes, your character might not *want* to be cured, but that's something you have to work out. An atonement spell after the remove curse is necessary to revert you to your original alignment. If you do decide to stick with the Werewolf thing and really want to be Chaotic Evil from now on, PHB2 has rules for taking a Retraining quest from a church in your campaign world so that your devotion to one deity can be transferred to another, letting you keep all your spellcasting abilities while switching your domains and such around. In this case, a deity linked to the wild and animals might be appropriate. |
| Nephlite10-11-07, 07:09 PM | Good Clerics can't spontaneously cast Inflict spells, and Evil Clerics can't spontaneously cast Cure spells. I don't recall off the top of my head how Favored Souls interact with this. Favored Souls do not have "spontanous X" They are Sorcerous Clerics. So they can spontanously cast cure if evil. Favored Souls, however, need a Alignment within Diety like a Cleric. So as long as God was neutral, this is no problem. |
| RancorClaw10-12-07, 12:22 AM | So as long as God was neutral, this is no problem. While most of my characters tend to be neutral to some degree, my Favored Soul was actually Chaotic-Good. Apollo, his deity, is Chaotic-Good as well. This is why I doubt Apollo will be very happy about the character turning Chaotic-Evil. Although I have thought of an Evil use for Curing spells: keeping someone alive, so you can continue torturing him. |
| ArcTan10-12-07, 12:29 AM | Find a Temple of Ares or something and convert. PHB2 has the details. |
