Alignment based attacks and protection? [Archive] - Wizards Community

There are quite a few ways of attacking your enemy through means of his alignment. The holy/unholy/axiomatic/chaotic weapon enhancements, feats such as axiomatic strike and not to forget quite a wide range of spells such as Blasphemy, Holy Smite and protection from evil. The question is, what can I do to protect my character/what would my npc do to protect itself?

It's clear that the level 8 spell Mind Blank protects from these types of attack/spells. But is there nothing short of being true neutral in alignment that can help me before that?

Personally, I would like spells such as Undetectable Alignment to help with this. If for no other reason than to provide a relatively low level dispellable solution for groups and NPC's alike. (Players have far more alignment based attacks with use of item creation feats and clever domain selection than most NPCs will ever have unless you want to inflate your campaign with powerful magic weapons.)

What are your thoughts on this subject? I couldn't find anything in the official FAQ or Erratas, so here I am asking the gaming community instead. Thanks for your help. :)

I don't think Mind Blank helps in defense against attacks based on alignment (other than to keep the person making the attack from knowing the alignment via divination methods). I couldn't find anything in it that implies it does anything other than hide your alignment and your thoughts and protects you from being influenced by things that control thoughts. (But no physical protection conferred.)

I think, for example, that if a pit fiend has mind blank cast on him, you can't tell that he's evil (and you can't read his thoughts, and you can't influence his thoughts), but if you stick him with a Holy enchanted sword, it's still going to do the extra 2d6 damage.
