I was going to name this thread "Spread and Cover" just because it's sounds like soft porn haha but it was too vague. I went through the PHB and collected all the spells that had "Spread" in their target or effect. Not within the text of the description. I'm no magic expert first of all. Basically my understanding is that these spells due to their Spread effect are not hindered by Total cover(Tower Shield, etc.) or any lesser cover as long as there is even so much as an arrow slit(PHB 152 varying degrees of cover)for the spell to go through. Spread Spells - Acid Fog, Blasphemy, Calm Emotions, Cloudkill, Dictum, Earthquake, Entangle, Evard's Black Tentacles, Fireball, Fog Cloud, Glitterdust, Holy Word, Hypnotic Pattern, Incendiary Cloud, Mind Fog, Meteor Swarm, Obscuring Mist, Rainbow Pattern, Scintillating Pattern, Shatter, Sound Burst, Song of Discord, Stinking Cloud, Unholy Blight, Wail of the Banshee, Whispering Wind, Web, Word of Chaos It's not a long list and makes me wonder how many spells allow a Tower Shield user to gain +2 reflex from cover...not that it's that big an advantage.
