Does a humanoid form exist, into which one could alter with the spell "Alter Self" and gain the fly ability? Some elfish race? If yes please tell me the Sourcebook too.

There is a flying race in Races of Wild, you have to have atleast 10 HD to fly though....if you dont then you can only fly for 10 minutes BUT you can glide to have it last longer.

I think the name is Raptoran.

A flying elf does exist but in some Faerun book. :)

Thank you for the quick reply. If you can alter into Avariel with alter self that means a Level 2 spell would grant the fly ability.

Yes, but Avariels fly at 50ft, not 60ft. They have average maneuverability, not good. And they have a wingspan of 12ft on average, and can't fly unless there is enough space to completely extend their wings.

You should see dragonwrought kobolds (type: DRAGON). Natural weapons, better flight than fly, some good natural armor, and good old darkvision/blindsight.:evillaugh

You are talking about using them to alter self into wyrmling black dragons, right.:)

Hmm... it's difficult. Avarials, I believe, are strictly speaking from a 3.0 book. As for Raptorans... it's ambiguous how alter self interacts with the raptoran HD requirements. Raptorans get a weak flight capability at 5 HD and a stronger flight capability at 10 HD if I recall correctly. Alter self has an HD cap of 5. So the question is, if you're a level 10 human sorcerer (say), and you alter yourself into a raptoran, does that mean "Raptorans don't have racial hit dice, so they're fine as far as alter self is concerned. Once you've altered yourself into a raptoran, you're the equivalent of a raptoran with 10 HD, so you get the stronger flight ability," or does it mean "You can alter yourself into the equivalent of a 5 HD raptoran, but not the equivalent a 10 HD raptoran, so you can only get the weaker flight ability?"

From a rules perspective, it's difficult to say, at least to my eye.

I think races of faerun is technically 3.25, but I cannot be sure. either way, I see no need to have it updated to 3.5, it seems pretty much compliant enough as is...

That and other dragons (white wyrmlings have 60ft move, 150ft flight (average) (120ft max w/ alter self), burrow 30ft, and swim 60ft). I was going to make a kobold battle sorcerer that likes alter self (if nothing else it should aid in intiminate checks).

Well, for one thing, alter self only lets you change into something of the same type as your normal form. So kobold to dragon doesn't work. Kobolds are classified Small Humanoid (reptilian).

Secondly, Races of Faerun was published in 2003, and I'm pretty sure that makes it a 3.5 book.

I was talking about dragonwrought kobolds (which have the type: dragon) as an example of true fun.

I'm not familiar with those. What book are they in?

I think races of the dragon, but basically it is a feat for kobolds that makes them dragons (need dragon heritage).

Here you go...
Dragonwrought Feat

Benefit: You are a dragon wrought kobold. Your type is dragon rather than humanoid, and you lose the dragonblood subtype. You retain all your other subtypes and your kobold racial traits. Your scales become tinted with a color that matches that of your draconic heritage. As a dragon, you are immune to magic sleep and paralysis effects. You have darkvision out to 60 feet and low-light vision. You gain a +2 racial bonus on the skill indicated for your draconic heritage on the table on page 103.
Being of the dragon type opens a whole lot of possibilities for fun...:)
All fear the dragonwrought kobold dracolich...:D
