I was wondering if there were any large humanoids I could become with alter self within the 5 hd limit. . .

Or more specifically a medium humanoid with powerful build.

Though after reading through the druid/wildshape/animal growth thread a moment ago, I don't know if I should even bring anything closely similar up.

I've also forgotten why I wanted to be large. . .

I think it might be knockback or awesome blow related. . .

Oh wait, it was for use with the druid ability thousand faces. . . thats why I couldn't just cast enlarge.

If I were a collosal giant and I polymorphed into a medium human could I then be enlarged. . . j/k.

I thought the half-orc was large. Average stats are kind of weak though.

Also remember that your equipment doesn't change size. The only spells that change your equipment size are the first level enlarge, and the clerics spell that enlarges (righteous might?).

Half orcs large? Back to elementary school for you Gog :D
The only race I can come up with is the Goliath, medium with powerful build. Large humanoids aren't that widespread.

No large humanoids in the SRD. None. Unless you count lycanthropes.

Gog may have been thinking of half ogres which are large but they count as Giants I believe, not humanoids. Goliaths are monstrous humanoids too so even they don't qualify for alter self. Generally if you want to bump to large with alter self you need to be something other than humanoid, but even there it's a fairly narrow field of choices since alter self won't let you take on any form that has more than 5 HD....One of the many reasons I dislike how alterself got 3.5'ized. It should have been no natuarl armor or weapons, simply cosmetic and with not disbelief chance, possibly mode of breathing but that would still be plenty for a 2nd level spell (definite upgrade over change self which can be seen through with relative ease). Allowing some fixed hieght/weight flexibility like the chamelon "minor change" ability that would not provide reach or actual size change which has tons of mechanics baggage would have been nice. With that sort of change you'd not see tons of druids walking around as troglodites and lizard folk to get cheezy free natural armor.
