| Emir06-23-04, 02:17 PM | Two quick questions: My Sorcerer is level 4 now, needs a bit for level 5. And I need to select a spell level 2. I need help. Is the Scorching Ray the only usage, that is effective ? Please help. The other question is what could a Halfling Sorcerer use Alter Self for? |
| Seeker9506-23-04, 02:33 PM | 1. All of the 2nd level spells have "usage". What are your objectives? 2. A halfling could alter self into any medium, small, or tiny humanoid. Ask your DM what sourcebooks s/he uses. Then just identify all the humanoids from those sources. Eliminate the larger (or bigger) and diminutive ones, then scratch out the ones that are made from templates. |
| tarkin06-23-04, 02:58 PM | Three best 2nd level spells are: Mirror Image (Best defensive) Scorching Ray (Best offensive). False Life (Best healing/prepatory spell) other good ones: Web (great for a lot of multi-use things, including capture, protection from falling) Alter Self (good utility) Detect Thoughts (Great Info spell) Rope Trick (who doesn't need a hiding/sleeping space) |

You can't get supernatural abilitues, but you can get thier natural attacks (claws, bite) you can get fly, burrow, run fast (max fly 120, max anything else 60) climb. you can get racial bonuses to skills. Probaly could alter into an ozze to go under a door, a pixie to fly, a mole to burrow, a cheeta for 60 land movement...a dolphine/fish/manta ray to swim...plus it gives to a +10 to a disguise check if you try to look like a certain person. Hope I'm remembering it right, I read it recently, but haven't played a mage in awhile. I think you get natural AC bonus too by the way. |

You MUST stay within the caster's creature type. So no oozes unless you are already an ooze. No dragon unless you are already a dragon. Most PC casters will be limited to humanoid. Also note that there is 5 HD limit on the form you can take irrespective of your base type. |

You can't use web on a flying creature unless it is close enough to two supporting structures (two walls, wall and floor, wall and ceiling). |
| HeavenShallBurn06-28-04, 02:28 PM | My favorite 2. Level Spells are the following: -Mirror Image (just one of the greatest defence spells) -Knock (a great Spell to make your DM angry, especially at this level) -Tasha's hideous laughter (always useful, if your fighter gets dominated or charmed by an enemy and no "break enchantment" is available, furthermore a damn strong "make-an-enemy-useless-spell" at this level) -Scorching Rays(I'd take this Spell at 11th. Level) -Eagles Splendour (not really necessary, but a nice boost at lower Levels) -Scale of Weakening ( It's from the Draconomicon; A very good Spell, it reduces the natural armor of enemies by 4 + an additional point for all two levels above level 3. This Spell is allows no saveuing throw, and is therefore even at higher levels very useful) -Glitterdust (awful at low levels because of the blindness; still could at higher levels to outline invisible foes) -Touch of Idiocy (This one seems toooooo good for its level) -Invisibility (your spells are often not offensive so inv. stays) |
