| Koesherbacon11-09-06, 01:19 PM | Hi everybody! I've started playing in a level 1 campaign which meets every other week. I'm a gray elf conjurer and wondering if there are any alternate Summon Monster tables in any other books other than the PHB. Being level 1 there's only a certain number of creatures I can summon, and am limited to only half the monsters in the table due to alignment restrictions. My character took a flaw so he could have Spell Focus (Conjuration) and Augmented Summoning. He's going to end up going for the Master Specialist PrC in Complete Mage. Any other tables I can choose from for summoning? Or other suggestions for this? Thanks so much! |

Like Summon Monster I has creatures with CRs of 1/3 to 1/4 or so. You have to use some discretion; some creatures when summoned for a short time can be far more powerful than their CR would suggest. |

There are no mechanics in place which require arcane spellcasters to cast spells in line with their personal alignments. The only class that cannot cast certain [alignment] spells are clerics who must have a deity-specific aligment (so no Good cleric summoning fiendish creatures). Unless it's a roleplaying restriction, or DM house-rule, you're free to summon any creature on the Summon Monster lists. |

There are also two feats (Fiendish Summoning Specialist and Celestial Summoning Specialist) that allow you to add more creatures to your summon monster lists (basically, you can chose one more creature without having to take one out). I believe there was also one (or more) Dragon Magazine article on customising monster summon lists. |

I'm trying to be a CG summoner who has ties to the celestial plane. And the DM liked that so he made it a house rule for me. There are also two feats (Fiendish Summoning Specialist and Celestial Summoning Specialist) that allow you to add more creatures to your summon monster lists (basically, you can chose one more creature without having to take one out). Which book is Celestial Summoning in? Thanks guys, this is helpful information in general to have! |
