| Pennarin05-27-04, 08:46 PM | The description of the Shatterspike weapon special ability reads exactly like a +1 longsword that inflicts +4 damage to a weapon when sundering. It requires the Improved Sunder feat. My problem is that someone with a +1 longsword and the Improved Sunder feat does exactly that. So what does Shatterspike do? |
| EvilVegan05-27-04, 08:53 PM | Lets someone use improved sunder without spending the feat on it. |
| Servant05-27-04, 10:34 PM | Improved Sunder gives you a +4 on the attack roll when sundering, and averts the usual attack of opportunity. Shatterspike, basically, is considered a +4 weapon when someone with the feat uses it to sunder. You get a +4 to the opposed roll from the weapon's enhancement bonus (which does stack with the feat's bonus, but replaces the sword's regular +1 bonus, for +8 total) and a +4 to damage. Why Shatterspike only works for someone with Improved Sunder, I have no idea. |
| Pennarin05-28-04, 12:08 AM | Thanks. :) The ability's description did give the impression the bonus was due to the required feat. They should have added "in addition to the bonus of the feat". |
| John Paul Stoddard05-28-04, 12:36 AM | ShatterSpike was a 3.0 Version Weapon Applying the 3.0 Version rules Shatterspike was a better Weapon. 3.0 Sunder page 85 PHB Benefit: When You strike at an opponent's weapon you do not provoke an attack of oppertunity ( see Strike Weapon, page 136) So a Weilder with Sunder would get a +4 Bonus to the opposed attack roll and could damage up to +4 Weapons. ( Basically giving them the 3.5 Improved Sunder ) Fighter with Sunder without Shatterspike NO AOA Fighter with Sunder with Shatterspike NO AOA +4 Opposed Attack Roll Looks a little better now don't it. Like others have said Converting to 3.5 Version I would increase the Opposed Attack Roll to +8 |

In which case, if you want to know about Shatterspike, ask your DM :) Or alternatively, as noted, check the SRD. -Hyp. |
