| skyfall_druge dependitore06-21-05, 02:20 AM | my friends and i started a campain where we were all bards for different instruments to make a band. one day we came up with blue prints for an amplifier. take a box, doesn't matter on material. spider web for netting. a crystal to store a spell to pick up the signal and another grafter on the instrument. a summoned electric elemental.a speaker (think old style ear phone).it's cost some xp but after we had a blast being a vile death metal band of a drow, satir, illonis, orc, and gnome. |
| DonGnocci06-21-05, 05:06 AM | Sounds wack... REAL wack... Never heard real medieval bands, huh? Because if you'd have done, you wouldn't have made up that mockery... |
| Elandar06-21-05, 07:06 AM | medieval bands? in a world with drow and satyrs? I like the idea! :D |

No recordings of such exist (there being no recording devices then)... |
| obrysii06-21-05, 10:30 AM | Uhm, how would he have heard a real medieval band? No recordings of such exist (there being no recording devices then)... Probably by going to a Renissance Fair |
| MrkGrismer06-21-05, 11:47 AM | That would not be a real medieval band, but rather a recreation of one. Probably not a terribly accurate one either. |
| skyfall_druge dependitore06-21-05, 03:52 PM | people make extraordinary contraptions all the time. i'm a musician in real life so we wanted to incorporate it in d&d. it actually opened doors to alot of different scenarios. playing live, practicing, able to go places normally you wouldn't because of your rep. in the game. besides there is nothing badder than a half-orc screaming death metal lyrics at you while the drow is ripping it on the guitar.imagine the stage show. |
| smrtgmp06-21-05, 08:53 PM | Probably by going to a Renissance FairYes, because nothing screams accurate recreation like fat virgins in tights. ;) Besides, D&D has nothing to do with historical accuracy. If they are having fun with their all bard jam band, then rock on, I say. I see nothing wrong with magical items that amplify sound. In fact, I would think they would be somewhat common amongst bards. |
| SinisterSeraph06-21-05, 09:10 PM | Dragon magazine had an article once that had a similar item. It was a conch shell that acted like an amplifier. Whatever sounds were produced at the small end were made much louder at the other end, and it gave bards some kinda performance bonus. Can't remember which issue though. |
| Wyrd Bearer06-21-05, 09:34 PM | Yes, because nothing screams accurate recreation like fat virgins in tights. ;)Agh! One of the downfalls of Rennisance faires. Anyway, sounds cool. The all bard, all the time party sounds like fun but I don't know how effect it would be. And I really don't know how well it would work to have amps in D&D. Maybe give you a plus 2 situational bonus to your perform checks. |
| smrtgmp06-22-05, 01:41 AM | I would think it would increase the range of your bardic music. |
| cowdragon06-22-05, 09:05 AM | I agree with smrtgmp. If it increased your range, then all those obnoxious neighbors that would normally call the city guards on you for all the "racket" you were making might instead drop gold poeces at your feet because they are fascinated and such. Coming from a band, I know what it's like to get the cops called on you for niose violations. Of course, it's a small town, so I also know what it's like to have those same cops tell that pesky neighbor to "stuff it" and sit down and listen to us jam!!! :dancin:  :ayyyy!: :rimshot: The Cowdragon :mage: |

We only have seven minutes left (Out of a 26 minute long song)!" and then the cop that showed up looks at his watch, looks around and then says "Okay, you got seven minutes. I'll just go stand over here." And here is another vote for it increasing your music range. |
| skyfall_druge dependitore06-23-05, 03:17 AM | the trick is learn noise violation laws in your area, then when the cops come tell them that your really not breaking any laws. |
