Amulet of mighty fists too much? [Archive] - Wizards Community

From the 3.5 SRD:
Amulet of Mighty Fists: This amulet grants an enhancement bonus of +1 to +5 on attack and damage rolls with unarmed attacks and natural weapons.
Faint evocation; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, greater magic fang, creator’s caster level must be at least three times the amulet’s bonus; Price 6,000 gp (+1), 24,000 gp (+2), 54,000 gp (+3), 96,000 gp (+4), 150,000 gp (+5).

Is this too much? I realize that this was probably balanced with monks in mind, who get at most 2d10 damage and 2 extra attacks (Flurry of blows), and so the extra +s may be a bit overkill if it wasnt priced rather steeply...

BUT, I'm playing a modified race from Savage Species that gets 2 claw attacks (1d6), and I wanted to focus on my claws for flavor reasons.

Problem is, the way this amulet is priced, there is no way I could afford this and still have any other items (I am already far behind the standard character wealth for reasons I'm not going to bother bringing up - about 12.5k at 7th level).

Though I understand why this may be priced as it is, I'm never going to get more than 2 attacks, both at 1d8 (With Improved Natural Attack), so it seems rather unfair that I'd have to spend ALL my wealth just enabling myself to fight well.

Okay, rant's over... my question is, other than this amulet, is there anyway to fight with my claws and still be effective? Or should I just use a weapon like everyone else (I have all simple and martial weapon proficiencies)

P.S. I dont have a druid or anyone who can cast magic fang on me, in case anyone was going to suggest that.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Savage Species has the Necklace of Natural Weapons. You could get it, and it would only cost double what weapons normally cost (for 2 natural weapons) plus 1200. The amulet of mighty fists is almost the same, but treats you as having three natural weapons to enhance. Actually , I think it only works for the Monk anyway; claws aren't 'fists'.

Really? Thanks, I'll look into that. Anyone else have any suggestions?

The necklace of natural weapons says it is multiplied by the number of natural weapons it applies to (which makes sense)

But does this means that I have to pay extra because I have two claws, even though they are the same natural weapon? The reason I ask is because I think that improved natural attack has similar wording (Though I don't have it in front of me), and I wanted to know if I would have to take the feat twice, once for each claw.

Improved natural attack applies to both of your claws. You couldn't take the feat twice even if you wanted to; it doesn't allow that under a 'special' entry. It asks you to choose an "attack form," while the necklace is per natural weapon.

Actually it appears you can take Improved Natural Attack more than once. The Tiger has Improved Natural Attack (Claw) and Improved Natural Attack (Bite). It seems it was intended to be like Weapon Focus or Improved Critical where each time you take it, it applies to a new natural weapon.

Question: Since 3.5 Monks' Unarmed Attack counts as a natural weapon for "spells or effects that enhance or improve" natural weapons (like Magic Fang), could a Monk take this feat? Prerequisites are a natural weapon and base attack +4.

Beastclaws in SS are pretty cool also. Makes your claws +2 weapons plus adds an extra 1d6 damage to each one! Just my 2cp

1) Compare Amulet of Mighty Fists and Magic swords. Finds them priced using the same methods.

2) Realize anything cheaper than that is probably abusive, as why would it be cheaper to enhance your fists with magic than it is to enhance your weapons.

3) Realize that +'s to hit are worth a lot more (around 3x more) than +s to damabe.

Your best shot is something that will increase damage but not increase to hit.

Enlarge is one possibliity.

Or you could take some Rogue levels to get Sneak attack.

since you are a SS race you should qualify for monster feats.. check out Draconomicon.. there are a couple of feats that will allow you to add an extra attack to one natural weapon form each at higher BAB (+10 & +15 respectively IIRC)
