There is a spell called "anyspell" in the FRCS that allows a cleric to cast this spell from their domain slot, then read a scroll or spell book, and memorize a wizard spell. My question is this. When the cleric casts the newly memorized wizard spell, is it considered arcane, or divine.

If it is arcane, then the cleric could qualify for some prestige classes that normally require the ability to cast arcane spells.

If it is divine, then the cleric could use the inscribe rune feat (normally limited to divine spells) to make runes of wizard spells. There might be other implications, I just can't think of any right now.

I would like to hear the boards opinion on this.

I would treat it identically to the way I treat Limited Wish, Wish, and Miracle.

It is a Divine Spell, called Anyspell, whose effects are duplicating a known arcane spell. The spell itself could be counter-spelled by Anyspell, but not the actual Arcanespell.

As such they can be Rune inscribed, the same way any other Domain spell can be Rune Inscribed, but do not qualify you for Prestige Classes.

If you make a scroll of them, only someone who could cast a Divine version of AnySpell could cast it.

You could NOT use the arcane spells to qualify for the pre-reqs of various Magic Items, unless those magic items specifically said Anyspell.

In general, whenever you get one of theas abilities...you cast it as whatever type of magic you yourself use.

So a cleric casting Anyspell, casts the prepared arcane spell as a divine spell. And it can be used as any divine spell could.

The basic idea is you can't cast magic from the 'other' way. If your a divine spellcaster, you cast divine magic. Arcane spellcasters cast arcane magic.

That spell is from Mystra's "Spell" domain, isn't it?

I would probably say that the spell would, ultimately, be a divine spell. You're using a divine spell in order to prepare an arcane spell, but it's still coming from a divine caster (and divine casters who have no levels in an arcane casting class haven't the faintest idea how to actually channel arcane energy; everything is an extension of channeling their Power's magical energies), and ultimately enabled by divine magic, so in this instance, you've got two cases of divine vs. one instance of arcane. Democratically speaking, divine wins out. :)

This being said, if you're playing a Cleric of Mystra (who else gives access to the Spell domain?), many of them often have at least one or two levels of Wizard, as it only allows them greater access to the magicks across Faerun, which is something Mystra highly approves of. Who better to act as her Clerics than those who have an understanding of not only how to channel her divine power, but also how to command the Weave itself through a learned process such as arcane magic? I would almost imagine that many adventuring Clerics of Mystra might even consider going into the Mystic Theurge prestige class after having taken 3 levels of Cleric and 3 levels of Wizard. Such people would be her elite. :)
