| Nicholas the Paladin10-18-05, 02:58 AM | Hi Guys, A question from the druid in our group. After the spell 'Call Lightening" is cast, it requires a standard action to activate it once a round. Does this mean that when the Druid is wildshaped, it can .... let's say..... let go one of it's three attacks.... and call the lightening ? So in case of a bear: claw, claw, Lightening (in stead of bite)? Thanks ! |
| tresh10-18-05, 04:07 AM | Since calling lightning requires standard action to call bolt, you can't attack and call bolt. You can call bolt while wildshaped (requires only concentration). |
| Nicholas the Paladin10-18-05, 06:44 AM | Since calling lightning requires standard action to call bolt, you can't attack and call bolt. You can call bolt while wildshaped (requires only concentration). I know my question is probably a longshot..... what I get out of your reply is "No." But please clarify. Isn't every attack a moster makes a 'standard action'? |
| CaoSlayer10-18-05, 07:00 AM | Isn't every attack a moster makes a 'standard action'? No. An attack it is a standard action, for attacking more than once he must use a full attack action. |
| Master of the Wild10-18-05, 08:31 AM | Some people think cattle are cows and not the other way around here... A STANDARD ACTION is an action that takes up 3 seconds of time. In this period you can do one of the following things: - make one attack - drink a potion - sheathe a weapon - cast a most spells (among other things) A MOVE ACTION is an action that takes up 3 seconds of time. In this period you can do one of the following things: - draw a weapon - move your movement speed - open a door (among other things) A FULL ROUND ACTION is an action that takes up a full round. In this period you can do one of the following things: - cast a full-round spell - make a full attack Concentrating on a bolt is a standard action. Yup. Attacking with a claw is a standard action. Yup As a full round action you can make a full attack which is claw, claw, bite as a bear. A turn can consist of: - STANDARD + MOVE - MOVE + MOVE - FULL ROUND Basicly speaking and forgetting swift and free actions. You can never do more than one standard action in one turn. |

Yup As a full round action you can make a full attack which is claw, claw, bite as a bear..So you don't agree with the previous posters: A bear (wildshaped druid) could choose to CLAW, CLAW, LIGHTENING BOLT (and loose the bite)? 3 standard actions; one full round. |
| Jaid10-18-05, 09:54 AM | no, it is not 3 standard actions, it is one full round action. very big difference. you can call a bolt, or you can make a single attack, both as a standard action. however, as a special full round action, you may make multiple attacks (based on BAB or multiple limbs). you may not interchange those attacks with anything else you could do in a standard action, you may only make attacks. in other words, with a standard action you can make an attack action, but you cannot take a standard action with an attack action, and full attack only allows you to make multiple attack actions. as was suggested earlier, cows are cattle, but cattle are not necessarily cows. you can make an attack action with a standard action, but you cannot make a standard action with an attack action. if you allow this, then you should realise you are also allowing your druid to cast 3 spells/round while in bear form, just to give you an idea of what kind of mess you're in for. you're also allowing two spells/round for having the TWF feat, for example. so, long story short: no. |
| Rake10-18-05, 10:21 AM | In other words: An attack is not the same as a standard action. A full-round action means you can make all three attacks. It does NOT mean that you can make three standard actions. You can make all your attacks, or you can call ONE lightning bolt (and take a move action, too). |
| Phrennzy10-18-05, 11:04 AM | It takes a Full Round action to use the Claw Claw Bite routine. This does not mean that the full round is made up of 3 Standard actions. It is not. The bear has two choices for attack: Full Round Action: Claw, Claw, Bite. Standard Action: Claw attack only. You cannot do a Standard Action attack and Full Round Action in the same round. The call lightning is a Standard Action to use. So the bear has 3 choices: Full Round: Claw, Claw, Bite. Standard Action: Claw Standard Action: Call Lightning. He gets to do one of the three above. He cannot combine any of them. |
| Nicholas the Paladin10-18-05, 11:08 AM | okay, I get it. We're kinda new to this: we're used to one attack a round (low level characters), in which an attack is a standard action at the same time. Like you said, it's not the other way around. Thanks guys. |
