What are some spells that are "chaos" themed but are not chaotic themselves? I ask as I plan on throwing a spellcaster that specializes in chaos type spells at my PC's. I want to see how much confusion and downright hilarity I can inflict on them. Please include the source of the spell when giving suggestions and thanks in advance.

Tasha's hideous laughter and Otto's irresistable dance are both core examples of hilarious spells.

Try the confusion series:

Lesser Confusion, Confusion, Insanity, Symbol of Insanity.

For real confusion, there is also the nasty little Translocation Trick spell (you and target switch location and appearance. )

Where is that spell location, tarkin?
Nani?

Grease, Glitterdust, Baneful Polymorph.

Also spells can be made Chaotic by roleplaying. For example, have the mage say "look at all the pretty colors" in a creepy voice as he casts Hypnotic Pattern.
Make weird Suggestions like, "incorporate a song and dance routine in this following melee" and you have a fighter doing "Buffy, the Musical."

All the best,

Nani?

Translocation Trick is in Magic of Faerun. Pretty neat spell, works great against armies. But keep in mind that you don't want to end up all alone surrounded by the enemy hoping they don't realize who you are.

Well, the anarchic bloodline feat meantions these spells, colour spray, Tasha's, rage, confusion, mind fog, mislead, prismatic spray, maze and weird (note, I got this list off of Crystal Keep). Some of them are more chaotic than most. I like the prismatic line of spells, as you get to roll for effect every time you cast them, so you'll never know what'll happen when you hit someone with a prismatic spray or ray.

I recall a spell that was actually called sphere of chaos from BGII. It was a lovely little spell that set up an area for a few rounds where random stuff just happened to EVERYONE inside it each round; such effects include being confused, being balefully polymorphed into a squirrel, being full healed, taking Xd6 damage, etc. I don't know if this spell made it into 3rd ed (I'm presuming that it was an actual 2nd ed spell, like chromatic orb) that never translated well into 3rd ed.

Area effect spells are good for sowing chaos and dischord, especially if you use them indiscriminately. Fireball followed by hail storm followed by confusion, all shot into a combat generally makes everyone crazy. This isn't exactly good advice if you want your party to not use you as dragonbait and the official trap deactivator, but if you're playing a character that just doesn't care, then area effect spells are the way to go. Cast often and cast indiscriminately.

:evillaugh I can just picture it now, especially with the personallity I gave her. There she is, hovering about 50' above the PC's, cloaked by a greater invisibility spell with a small spere of silence around her, casting silenced versions of this spell and rolling around laughing her head off at the resulting confusion. :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh :schemes:

What book was that spell from? Maybe I can convert it over to 3.5 if I can get my hands on the original spell.
