The spell Consume Likeness (BoVD) says that you gain the appearance and form including clothing and equipment of a freshly slain corporeal humanoid. The material component is the flesh of the humanoid...

my point: It duplicates ALL equipment...

Possible cheese:
1. Drop your stuff, chow down, put your stuff back on, plus the new stuff you are suddenly wearing.

2. Get a merchant to hold all the things you want to "buy" from him. Kill, Eat, Profit!

3. Give a kobold your magic sword, kill him, and sell the copy. revert to your old form and repeat.
The downside: Taking ANY damage reverts you to normal

any other ideas for abusing this?

You realise that, as a corrupt spell, your "free" stuff will not only radiate magic, but also evil. And -powerful- evil and magic, since you have to be 11th level to cast the spell in the first place, right?

You're basically putting on the "Hi, I'm an evil wizard" sign on top of your head in great big glowing letters.

Silly, that NEVER stops the Big Bad Evil guy.

Silly, that NEVER stops the Big Bad Evil guy.

Right, since when did Miscellaneous Merchant #237 start randomly casting Detect Evil on every item he gets?

As for abuse, the effect can go up exponentially. Hand your Sword of Slaying to a commoner, consume him, and you have two swords, right? Then you hand those both to the next commoner, consume him, hand those four to the next one....

However, I note in the spell description that it doesn't say you actually get the stuff, just the "appearance and form" of the stuff. So you don't just get a bonus sword. However, if you have a generic longsword and a +5 Vorpal Longsword of Infinite Slaying, you can hand the magic one to the commoner, consume him, and you'll have one uber-weapon and one weapon that looks just like the uber weapon, which you can then sell. Presumably.

I dont know the spell in particular, but if you gave a sword to a commoner, would'nt it count as his equipment? Thus, you gain his equipment, and the sword does not duplicate, you just gain it and the commoners form. At least, that seems to be the way it would work out to me.

But in the end, the DM has the say so.

A wizO can delete this post if I'm breaking a rule here, but here's the actual text:

Consume Likeness
Corrupt 6
Components: V, S, F, Corrupt
1 action
Personal range
Target: Caster
Duration: Permanent.

The caster can take on the appearance and form - including clothing and equipment - of a corporeal humanoid that is freshly dead...
the rest of the spell deals with how much weight and how many arms you can gain etc.
Corrupt component: 2d6 WIS drain.

as far as I can tell, you gain the form of ALL the equipment they are carrying. the trick is to drop your stuff first, then put it back on after the spell is done. that way, you get your stuff and the stuff they have. you sell the copies of the junk they had, then revert, keeping your own. the body however is still there, with all of its stuff. just keep it preserved with a gentle repose

It seems like the intent of the spell is to enable an instant, flawless disguise rather than to duplicate gear. I'd rule that your body changes to match the victim's and the spell equips you with her gear rather than creating new gear.

1. I would read it as giving you things that look like his stuff, not that can do his stuff.

That is you get gold colored coins, not real gold, and the magic items you duplicate are not magical, and the admanatine weapon you duplicate just LOOKS like it is adamantine. None of it is real.

2. It also says you assume the appearance when he was alive, not the appearance when you cast the spell.

To me that means that to duplicate your own equiptment you have to give the victim your equiptment BEFORE he dies.

Doing it afterwards does nothing.

This spell is a disguise. It does not create a real copy, just a cheap rip-off
