Can 2 people (doppelgangers?) use detect thoughts to act as a kinda of telepathy? Just read what the the other is thinking? Would that work?

I would say no, because the first would end up thinking what the other just thought, which would be picked up by the other, which would be picked up again by the first. So there would be a heck of a lot of feedback, sort of like putting a microphone next to the speaker the microphone is hooked up to. Or in this case, two microphones and two speakers.

Of course, there's nothing in the rules that say anything like this would happen. Just be sure to keep the detect thoughts cone on the other person for more than 3 round to get the process started.

yes, it does work - according to Races of Destiny, this is how Doppelgangers communicate among themselves.

I think communicating through detect thoughts would be kind of like playing charades. I mean, can you get actual words and sentences that way?

Maybe they don't need to. Who says they think in words like we do? Especially if that's how they communicate among their own kind?

Such communication would be awkward, particularly to newcomers, but should certainly be doable. It would be strictly half-duplex, however, since only one person can "talk" at a time. The speakers would have to have some way of letting each person know whose turn it is to speak, and so the result would probably sound much like a CB radio.

Ask anyone who's ever became fluent in a second language. After being immersed in it for a while, at a certain point you start "thinking" in it.

actually I think it would be easier to communicate
maby not at first since its confusing
but try defining emotion with words, its not easy while with detect...
I dont remember if it works but easier to visualise a picture than to describe it
and many others possible exemples
